The Alining and Scientific Dress,
X
Parek Putcss.—.As an instance of the
cumulative operation of paper prices, we may
mention the late riots inthe coal mines of
Pennsylvania, The wages of tho miners rose
with the prico of gold, until thoy got scven
dollars per day, With the fall in gold it became
necessary to reduce tho wages. Seven dollars
a day bad been paid laborers in the mines, and
now, in view of tho stringency of the market, it
was proposed to reduce the rate to six dollars.
The resnlt was a bloody riot. Finally, the
military bad to be called oat to ptt a stop to
the disturbances, and at last accounts it wag
thought that tho danger was over.

PATENT AMALGAMATOR.
These Machines Stand Unrivaicd.
For rapidly pulverlzing and amalgamating ores, they
have noecqual. Noeffort has becn, or willbe, spared to
have them constructed In the most perfect manner, and of
the great number now In operation, not one has ever reuired repairs. The constant and increasing demand for
them Is guflicient evidence of thelr merits,
« They are constracted so asto apply steam directly inte
the pulp, or with steam hottoms, as desired,
This Amalgamator Operates as Follows;
The pan boing filled, the motion of the muller forces the
pulp to the cenier, where It ls drawn down through the Ae
ertoro and between the erind{ng surfaces. Thence it la
thrown to the periphery Into the quicksilver. The curved
plates again draw it to the center, where It passes down,
and tothe circumference as hctore. Tbugitls constantly
pees in a regular flow hetween the grinding surfaces and
nto the ivan alrag. untll the ore is reduced to an Impalpable powder, and the metal amatgamated.
Sctlors made on the samo principle exccl all othors.—
They hring the pulp so constantly and periectly in contact
