43 ‘He Origin or THE Weerrixnc Wittow.— : Arabian legend of the origin of the weepwillow is curious, but contuins, like most litions, an anachronisin, if we accept the ows of Babylon ns tho weeping willow, but Arabians are much better raconteurs than anists ; soit will not do to apply too severe stentitic test to thetr accuracy. ‘Whe legend la that after David had warried Dathsheba, wag one day pluying ou bis hurp ia his priechamber, when be found two strangers . hosite to him, although he had given strict era that no onc should intrude upon lis prily. These strungers were nogels who conted hin of lus crimo in nearly the same aner as is related in holy writ. David then ognized in the strangers the nugels of the rd, and was sensible of the heniousness of offence. Torthwith he threw hinself on floor and shed tears of bitter repentance ; re he luy upon his face for forty days and y nights, weeping and trembling before the gmeut of the Lard. As many tears of retance as the whole human raco havo shed will shed on account of theirsius from the le of David till the judgment day, so many David weep in these forty days. all the le meaniug forth penitential psahns. The rs from his eyes formed two streams which from the closet into the ante-room und ince intothe garden. Where they sank the ground, there sprang up two trees, the ping willow and the frankincense tree: the E weeps aud moans, and the secoud incessly sheds big tears in memory of the sincere entauce of David, ’ MINING LAWS AND FORMS. Thut is, the Tractory-formed griading plates will reduce one hundred and seventy-seven tons of ore, the conical grinding platés ons hundred nnd ten tons, and the pleae circalar grinding plates ninety-eight tons, to the same degree of fineness in the same time. Those using this invention certify that they thoroughly reduce five tons of ore, as it ordinarily comes from the wet battery, per dny in cnch pan, four feet diameter, the muller making sixty-five revolutions per miuute, 2d. Thetasa whole, the Wheeler & Randall Grinder and Amalgamator is one of thc most simple, compact, substantiul, convenient and efficient pans in use. (G> Patent npplied for. SAN FRANCISCO, JUNE 13, 1865, THE EXCELSIOR GRINDER AND AMALGAMATOR, In the engraving herewith preseated, A represeats the Rim of the Pan; B, Muller; Gi juegs; D, Cross-Frame; E, Gearing; F, Scre G, Lever; H, Dash-Boards, I, Key; a, Dica; c, Shoes, and o, Openings, The relative grinding capncities of “The Exccisior” Grinder and Amalgamator, ol the Flat Bottomed Pnn, und of the Couical Pan when properly constructed, arc respectively 177, 98 and 110, That is, ihe respective mulicrs being of the same diameter, same weight, same hardness, aad raauing at the saine velocity, “The Excelsior Griader and Amnigamuator” will reduce one hundred and seventy-seven tons of ore, the Fint Bottomed Pan ninetyeight tons, and the Conical Pan one hundred and ten tons to the same degree of fincness in the same time. The wear to the Shoes and Dies at their grinding surfaces in th? Excelsior Grinder and Amalgnmator, is perfectly uniform, thu securing oveaness of reduction to the pulp, as well as steadiness of motion to the muller. Uaiform wenr of the grinding plates has been attained in uo other than that of the Tractory form—nor can it be. ~ Another property of excellence in this machine is that the metal or substnnce to be amalgamated passes direct from the grinding surfaces into the quicksilver; thus excluding the possibility of its becoming coated with any foreigu substances, after having becn hurnished. It is truthfally said “that the Tractory-formed Pun as u Grindcr has no equal, and as an Amalgamator no superior.” As a whole, it is far superior to any other pnn in use.
