Lixcouy’s Favomre Porm—Quite a little discussion took place recently in this city, with regard to the authorship of a certaiu very fine piece of poetry, which was a great favorite with Mr. Lincoln, Its authorship was claimed for him by the #lagq, of this city. The Boston Commonwealth says it was written by William Kuox, a poet of cousiderable talent in Kdinbure, Scotland. It was first published in 1825. — Mining and Scientific Press. The poem to which the Press refers is headed, “ Oh, why should the spirit of mortals be proud.” It was written by William Knox, and may be found in a collection entitled “ The Sacred Poets of England and America,” edited by Rufus W. Griswold. Knox wag a taan of promise, but died at the age of thirtysix, in Edinburg, in 1825.
