128 Ghe Wining wnt Selentific Press. “The California Youths’ Companion.” The following article from the Youths? Companion, of last week, fully explains itself : The proprietorship of the undersigned in the Youru’s Companion, closes with the present number. Hereafter, Messrs. Dewey & Co., of the Ahning and Scientific Press, will assume its publication. The principal object we have had in view in making this arrangement, has been to promote the interests, and give additional value to the little paper we have estahlished and conducted, thus far, for the amusement, instruction, and benefit of the youth of Ualifornia. The usual difficulties a new publication has to contend with in starting, and what is more important—in continuing—have been fully experienced by the projector of this enterprise, yet the kind words and cheerful interest of many true friends, has made the sacrifice a pleasant one. The gentlemen into whose hands the paper has now passed, have more extended means and facilities for making it what it should be, than we could command, hence the change. While our proprietorship ceases, our interest and efforts in hehalf of the paper will still continue. At the request of the new proprietors, we shall continue, for the present, to look after the uotside interests of the CompaNIoN, and on the issue of the next number shall yisit, in succession, the Schools throughout the city, for the purpose of securing for ita more extended circulation among the youth of San Francisco, and eventually throughout the State. The subseriptions of all who have subscribed by the quarter, expire with the present number, and we trust that they will he prepared for renewal when we reach them. The well-knowu position which the new proprietors hold in the city and State, as the publishers of a journal devoted more especially to the purpose of diffusing useful and iustructive information, is a guarantee quite sufficient to warrant the assumption that the readers of the Yourus’ Companton, will lose nothing by the contemplated change; but on the other hand, will finda marked increase in the value and interest which will hereafter attach to its columns, With thanks to all, but more especially to the Teachers in the department, who have afforded us every facility and assistance for the circulation of our paper, we submit it to other and abler hands, Frank SMiru.
