The Mining and Seientiiie Dress, a Conpiimentary.—The Stockton Independent, in acknowledging the reception of » copy of the hiennial school report of our present worthy Superintendent of Public Instroction, suggests that the document should he placed in the hands of each hoard of school trustees, and every teacher throughout the State. The same paper further takes the opportunity to pay the following well deserved compliment to that officer : We think Superintendent Swett is proving himself a very diligent, intelligent and earnest friend of popular education—in fact, one of the leading benefactors of this coast—and it is not exactly the thing to hide his light onder a hushel hy stioting the cireulation of his report. —_— Tue Srarun or Linconn.—The artist, Mr. P. Mezzara, is husily engaged in perfecting his statue of Lincolu, which was exhibited at the late Fair of the Mechanies’ Institute, in this city. The finishing tonches will all be completed by the end ‘of the present month. It is to he placed upon » proper pedestal in front of the Lincoln School House, where the foundation has already heen prepared. We understand it will be nncovered to the public on the 15th of April, the anniversary of the assasination of the great and good man, whose memory it is designed to perpetuate. The artist has allowed the statue to he placed there fora mere nominal sum—its cost. and the necessary expenses of mounting it. The cost has heen defrayed by subscription, and the statue is the first raised in the country to the memory of onr martyred President. —_ Book Printing should ho eonsidered and treated as one of the higher Drauehes of the *‘ Artof Arts,” and jtsexecution entrusted only to experieneed and intelligent workmen. That is, ihe respective mullers heing of the same diameter, 2 Y same weight, same hardness, and running at the same velocity aes dF “The Excelsior Grinder and Amalgamator” will reduce one hundred and seventy-seven tons of ore, the Flat Bottomed Pan ninetyeight tons, and the Conical Pan one hundred aud ten tons to the same degree of fineness in the same time. The wear to the Shoes and Dies at their grinding surfaces in the Excelsior Grinder and Amalgamator, is perfectly uniform, thus securing evenness of reduction to the pulp, as well as steadiness = of motion to the muller. has been attained in no other than that of the Tractory form—nor Another property of excellence in this machine is that the metal or substance to he amalgamated passes direct from the grinding surfaces into the eee hecoming coated with any foreign substances, after having been hurnished. It is truthfully said “that the Tractory-formed Pan as a Grinder has no equal, and as an Amalgamator no superior.” As a whole, it is far superior to any other pan in use.
