Mexico the work for science aud the arts
which Napoleon 1. accomplished in connection
with the expedition to Rgypt. The Minister
of Public Instroction, in u report addressed to
Emperor, proposed the appointinent of a comniizsioner to preparo instractious for an expedition, and to superintend the publication of
the resulta of observations on thut country,
made iu connection with the army. In regurd
to the minerals and orincs of Mexico, the report
gays :—
“What bas been doro by mining assons 13 worthy of praise, but what is known

mubtedly the sinullest part of that which

A Siseuran Rute.—The Boston School
Committee have so amended their school regulations as to forbid any teacher from receiving
A preseat from ony scholur or class in the
publie schools in thut city. Not even a graduating clues is allowed to muke any demunstration of that kind of their appreciution of a
teacher under whoso direction they received
their eduentiou. Such a rule appears unnecessarily arbitrary ond sovere, and would
hardly be thought of in any other locality than
the “city ol notions ;” atbert Boston has some
most excellrnt notions, and especially about
school teaching.

Senoots ix TeLanE Covunty.—A eorrespondent of the Visalia Deda cails particular
attention to the pleusing fact, and one whieh
speaks volumes for the people of Tulare, that
while in 1860 there were only five schools in
the county, in 1865 there were fifiy, and increasing in numbers. Those schools are welt
attended, and a general anxiety is manifested
in the great cause of education.
