218 The “Biining and Srientific Press, a ~ — Om 1n Cotorapo,—The Denver News chronicles the fioding of large quautities of oil in that Sate. It says: We have every reason to belive, from the indications and discoveries made, that portions of our Territory are as rich in petroleum as the celebrated Pithole District in Pennsylvania. Near Caoyon City,a we . is now yielding twenty-four barrels per day ol the best quality of “green oil.” This well is only eeventy-five feet in depth, and is the only well that has beeu sunk for oil io the Territory. Some others are goiog down, but tone have as yet reached sny coneiderable depth. Practica Epvostion.—Among the novelties recently added to the Santa Clara College, eays the San Jose Mercury, is a printing press, witha fine assortment of new type. ‘The mechanic rrts are oow carried to a greater extent in this college than any other institution of the kind in this country. Wlectrotyping, daguerreotyping, telegraphing, practical assayjog, engineering, printing, and various other arts and sciences are thoroughly taught. ‘wo companies of cadets are also thoroughly trained in military tactics.
