The Mining aud Fcientific Press,
een
New Morwow ‘Taneanacen —The building
is in the form of an ellipse, with an extreme
length of 259 feut, and width of 150. Extreme
higut of roof 7H lect, hight of ceiling 68 feet.
The jinmease rvvl-frame rests upon +4 cut
stone piera. abunt 12 feet apart and 20 leet in
hight, which gives 48 fert of spring totho arch.
Vhe 44 benta, or principal rafters forming the
arch are composed of eix thicknesses 243 inch
plank, framed like lattice-work, strongly pinned
and bolted, and tied by fifteen horizontal crosstimbers on the outside, npon which the small
raltera fur the sheeting will be lain, and fiftcco
similur cross timbers insile, to which the cciling-juista will be staycd. The thirteen half
benta resting upon the thirteen piers in curve
at each end, join diagonally upon the apex of
the arch af the two outside parallel bunts.
The stand will be in tho west end—the floor
to be Javel fora distance of sixty or scveuty
fuetin front of the stand, thence gradually
rising to the east cud, where the seats will be
eight feet abovu the level. It ig estimuted that
the house will seat nbout 10,000 persons. For
freedom of ingress and egress—a very inaterial
consideration whrre targe nudiences are concerned—ample provision has been made in the
folding-doar appointments of the entiru spacu
between the nine piers in line on either side.
A cornice eight feet deep will surmount the
stone work.
In the majestic, towering, self-supporting
roof of this building there will bo consumed
nearly 100,000 feet of lnuber, When finished,
it will present the appearance of a ponderous
half globe, with sides slightly compressed,
A yousa fellow has been congratulating
