234 Ghe Wining and Seiowtifie Presa,
A Ficuttvo Sonoon Marmu,—Some trouble
and a law suit regarding the punishment of a
scholar occurred last week in the District of
Orange Center, in which right prevailed go triumphantly that it deserves eapecial notice. ‘The
teacher, Miss Emily Batchelder, of Kast Montpelier, with the volunteer assistance of one
ofthe boys in School, punished a large and
unruly scholar (who was endeavoring to make
a, fuss in School and defy the the teacher,) so
severely that le begged for merey, and his
father prosecuted the teacher. ‘I'he doctor
culled to examine the “abused” boy, stated that
he evidently was pretty well punished, but bethought not quite what he had deserved. Ao
attempt was made to procure a jury, but a man
could not be found who had not “formed an
opinion,” which was “that he wan't licked balf
enough.” Seeing what the inevitable result
of a trial must be, the prosecution finally withdrew the suit, when a collection was taken up
which paid ail the expenses to which Miss
Batchelder had been subjected, and presented
her, in behalf of the ladies of the dissrict, with
a set of silver table spoons and butter knife,
indicating that the district was hearty and true
in the support of a teacher who had fearlessly
done her duty.— Montpelier (Vt.) Freeman.
How ro Have a Suarr Razor.—Take a strip
of thick harness leather, the size you waut for
a strap, and fasten it at each end upon a piece
of wood; then rab upon its sarface a piece of
tin (any tin dish will do) until it is smouth.
Strop your razor upon this, and you will find it
worth all the patent strops that were ever invented.—Portlund American,
