Silver Mountain district, have struck rock

The Monitor Gazette of April 21st, says:
The Monntnin Company have struck a very
large .body of water in their tunnel, now in

The Buekeyé No. 1, has been leased for six’

which is expected, to expend upon it, withiu

. Encouraging, accounts have been lately received from Hite's Cove. ‘Lhe vein owned by
Wynaats, continues to yield at
its usual ‘tate. They have a vein 8} feet in
‘\ thickness, and paying regularly from $60 to
$80 per ton,
A writer in the Mariposa Gazette, speaking
of the Willamette copper district, in ‘that
county, says that n vein fifteen feet in width
was struck on the Brummett lode, at the depth
of a few feet.
Hnskell, at bis works on the Chowchilla,
last week, smelted, in twenty bours, 5,122
pounds of copper from the Buchanan claim.
‘he new furnace, at the smelting works of
Henry & Co., at James’ Ranch, is in operation. The operator, Desarmen, turned out
seveuty-five pigs of copper from Sunday: morning uutil two o'clock Mondey afternoon. ‘he
furnace is a complete success, end a number ol
others will shortly be erected. Suediker, who
is working the Green vein, 18 getting ont the
finest and ricbest ore in the district. A furnoce will soon be erected on the gronud for
smelting purposes.
Prosas ° Cooxry—The pete: Union of
April 14th, says’:~ Wood's’ claim has been ‘worked for the past
three months, paying on an average of $12
per dny to the hnnd. ‘Moulton’s claims have
been paying $14 per day to the huad, for the
past four nontbs. Ripple & Bohemo clenned
up, a sbort time since, 37,000. ‘They expect
to make another run ‘before the winter season
closes. ‘They-work but four meu. Anderson
& Co., ore making $10 per day to the band.
‘The compavy working the’ Bourbon ” ground
are making $8 a day. O’Brien’s claim, on
Lost Creek, is paying well. Mallndy & Feeny,
on Sly Creek, are everdging $40 perday. A
majority of the miners in this locality are
pretly well satisfied, so far as ths profits of
ulining are concerned.
Hussoipt Counry.—The Huimboldt Pires
of April 7th, says thnt Jennings’ Oil Well
Compaoy have sunk tlieir well 94 feet, and
‘struck a hard sand rock, which yields an uninistakable show of oil. ‘fhe well of the Oil
Creek Company is down 170 feet, and the
prozpects are very eucouraging. The Fortuna
Company have received a large arhount of inachinery for tbe prosecution of operations ‘on
Bear river.
Srerra County.—* A piéce of gold containing a little quartz” and weighing over eighteen ouuces, was recently taken from some

Siskiyou Counry._The Yreka’ Union, gives
an account of a great land slide which occurred
recently at Deadwood. ‘The monntain aboys
that place, for a distance of 120 yards’ in
length, and nearly that in breadth, slid into
the creek, moking a complets dam, ‘and back
ing up the water to’ the eptl of sixty. feet.
Some of the clainis in that vicinity nee entirely covered up.
WASHOE, NEVADA.
Important movements have been mede ip
the Mariposa Mill. The old rotery battery
has been superseded by three straight batteries,
of four stamps each ; the pans have been altered to the Wheeler pattern, ond the Zerritorial
Enterprise says that now “ everything appears
to go off like clockwork.”

& Hawxhurst, a block ofore weighing 104
pounds, whicb ‘is nndoubtedly the most value.

with a plentiful sprinkling of spangles of gold, »
and is worth, according to assny $6 per pound,

The Sierra Nevada Company are vigoronsly
driving ahead with the werk on their new
shaft, ‘the double engive ‘fornierly nsed in ths
old works being used for hoisting. Their new »
building is about completed. ‘The new shaft
is about three hundred yards eest of the first
or old one. ;
The amount of bnilion abipped from the Gold
Hill Express office,for the month of -March
last, was $490,123.89. T'or'the quarter ending March 31st, 1866, the’ shipments reach
