Judicious Resolutions.
Several of our most substantial and judiciously managed mining corporations have
passed resolutions, since the approval of the
new assessment law, requiring all notice of
asseasments'and sales to be published in the
Mrnixe anv Screntiric Press, the enly thorough (daily or weekly) mining journal on this
coast. Our efforts to concentrate all mining
advertisements in one paper, for the economical
convenience of shareholders and assessment
pilyers, are meeting with decided success.
Those who believe in supporting the. niining
cause, Should bear our paper in mind, and
hring up this subject at the next trustee or
sharebolders’ nreeting. :

New Mining Laws of California and Nevada,
We have just issued, in cheap edition, the new
laws relating to mining and corporations in Cali
fornia and Nevada, passed in 1865-6. Some of
these laws are of the highest importance to parties
interested in the matter of locating and holding
claims, and prospecting mines, in these States.

Fossits 1n Orsoon.—The Dalles Mountaineer of April 27th, publishes a communication from L. L. Rowland in regard to the recent
discqvery of some fossils. We quote:
“ Col. Fulton and myself took this morning
from a newly washed gully, in the hills near
Ten Mile creek, from its long resting place,
some eight or ten feet below the natural surface of the earth,a huge tusk, six feet long
ad twenty-three inches in circumference at
the large end, and to all appearance, considerably shortened by decay. While taking ont
the aforesaid tusk, another was fonnd within a
few reds of the sane spot, about sixteen feet
heneat: the surlace of the earth, much larger
than the first ; but uot having time to take it
ont at once its length and dimensions are yet
undetermined. On returning from the scene
of the discovery of these tusks, another was
found near by, of about the size of the largest
of those mentioned above.
A few days ago, at abonta mile from the]
place where our discoveries were made, a large
piece of a tusk was fonnd projecting from a
gravel-bank at the depth of twenty-five feet.
from the natural snrface of the ground.”
