In Vaughan & Co's claim, on the Soroeco

per ton by the ordinary working process. ‘The
vein of quartz is full four féet thick, eid so'far
as prospected,-all between the walls will pay
the abuve average..The Potosi claim, loca:
ted at Drytown, and owned: by Messrs. Hick
son & Miller, will uddoubtedly prove to be the’
richest strike ever mede in the county. The
Jedge in the shaft now being sunk is near fonr
feet thick between the walls, and will pay not
less than $100 per ton by the milling process.

The Spanieh lode, about two miles eouth of
town, was sold last Saturday to Messrs Fenton,
Jenks & Goddard, for six thousaud dollars. A
emill is to be erected..A new discovery,
called the ‘ Vatiean,’ has heen made about
one mile and a half ahove Amador City, on
“Amador creek. ‘he rock, so far as nnearthed,
is pronounced hy judges to be. of snperior
quality..A few days since the-owners of
cthe-old “Pinkson claim struck unprecedented
‘rich rock—so rich thal pure gold can be seen
in every piece of rock taken out, and-some of
it, after heing broken with a hammer, is held
together hy streaks of gold..‘The result of
the late clean-up of none hundred tons of rock
from the Kennedy claim, ernphey in the Coney
mill, was $4, 400.

Frauk Caneo & Co. have a very good elaim
about a quarter of a mile ahove, on whieh they
have sunk a shaft 90 feet, and found pay dirt
nearly all the way down, hey are now drifting et the bottom of the shaft. In the first

Lake County— ei
The Clear Lake Times erie the Agen
in that county of an immense deposit of voleanic sulphur. .A company are sending up mawill soon’be prepared’to turn out’a refined article of that -mineral.2.A correspondent of
that paper writes: “I Tave about one pound
of pure alum, beantifully crystallized, obtained
from the inperfect washing of six or seven
-ponuds of aluminons clay, which was takeo
from the Kelsey Creek alum bank. ‘The hank
is most favorably located for working.”
Mariposa County-‘The Free Press of May 26th, says: Green,
Snediker & Co., are dows in their shaft over
one hundred feet. The ore is improving in
quality. The vein is situated near Herron’s
raneh, and is known as the Green Dozier eopper vein.
Nevada Couuty—
The Gazette has these items: Three tunnels
have been run-at the Eureka mine; one of
30 ‘feet, one ‘of 100 feet and one of 75 feet.
Froin the last mentioned. whieh is several hundred feet lower on the ledge than the others,
very rieh rock is now being teken. An offer
of $50,000 for the claim on ‘Tuesday of last
week, was rejected .. Weare informed that
very fich rock was struck in the Federal Loan
_quertz ledge yesterday. ‘This ledge’is situated
in the Leeompton distriet, a mile anda half
above the Orieutal mill ..Five hundred and
ten kegs n! powder were used: in a single blast
the other day, at the hydraulie claims of the
-Ameriean company, on Manzanita Hill, near
North San Juan. Most of the population of
-San-Juan went out to witness it. The Gazette
‘says: It made but little noise, and at a distance of three or four .liundred yards, where

Grass Valley seem at ‘present to be a failure.
. The Premium ledge, at Indian Valley, is
being worked with great activity. Five: or
six teams are.-constantly employed hauling
quartz fram this mine to the Crescent Mills,
averaging nbout 30 tons ner day. The last
run on this roek paid over $17-to the top..
The Plumas ledge seems to be a perfect mass
of quartz, no walls.having yet been iound, ond
has already a width of 30 feet. This roek pays
about $16 to the ton.

Township, May 20th, says:
Some few hydraulic claims have coinmeneed
to clean up with flattering prospects. A. Droge
& Co.,on Rush Creek Flat, eleaned up for

Ketcher is making in his elnim half an ounce .
per day. Jim Smith and Reddy and several
other companies are getting into the bed of
the creek once more, and are making from
seven to eight dollare pér day. ©

‘The Messenger of May 26, says the Holmes
tunnel is now in 200 feet..An amicable
arrangement has been effected between the
Riehardson and Buffalo companies, at Fir Cap
Hill. At the last meeting they consolidated
under the name of“ Shamrock M. Co.” with
the determination to proseente work vigorously.

May 20th, says:

‘The Marysville Appeal of May 24th, says:
We understand that there is considerable excitement ot Brown’s Valley, in ‘consequenes
of the rich roek struek in the Pennsylvania
claim, and the ‘Tesumption of work on the Yaha. Many of the city lots which have heen
allowed to go to the common, have heen reelaimed, and are being’ re-fenced.. “The Jefferson pny streak has” finally heen reached in
the Pennsylvania shaft. ‘The ledge is five feet
in thiekness, and daily increasing. The quartz
is rich.. They intend to put up again their
machinery i in the Daniel Webster, end resums
work within a lew days. ‘They own 3,600 feet
of ground, whieh is divided into 2,000 shares,
.Vhe Yuba Company settled up their money niatters to-day, and work will.-be rssumed
without delay..The Dooncbroge got rid this

NEVADA.
Virginia--‘The Gold Hill Wevs reports a strike nf very
rich silver ore in the Crown Point mine at that
pleee. One specimen is degeribed as weighing
thirty pounds, which hod in the center an ele~
gant erystallized eave, the size of a large tea
cup, across the outer edges of which were several thick strands of silver wire, cold spengled
-and bright specks of pnre silver, beside one or
two bunches of tangled wire silver. Of anuther speeimen the News says: “The largest
and, proportionate to its size, the richest mass
of silver ore ever taken out of any eilver inine
here, was brought to the surface at about, four
(e) ‘clock yeaterday afternoou, teken out of the
same ‘ drift.’ Its weight is about 500 ponnds.
It consists entirely of black silver solphorets.
An assay showed n yield at the rate of $3,000
per ton.”
The Enterprise speaks of 2 302 ounce hriek
from the MeGregor ledge, Clan Alpine distriet, owned hy a New York company.
Dayton—
The Lyon County Sentinel of May 26th,saye the. Dayton Tailinge Company have now
on hand upward of 80,000 tons of tailings,
making ao average of 400 tons ae the aceumulation of every 24 hours. ‘The company has
contracted to furnish Ruggles, Helm & Co.

Piute claiin, near Mason'e roneh, has been
worked steadily all the wiuter and spring hy
its proprietors. They have a ehaft down 160

It is expected that the furnace will be in operation in a few days.

They are 100 miles north of Austin.. .The
property of the La Plata Silver Mining compony embraces four ledges, known as the Fairmount, Bigler, and ‘Twin Ophirs Nos. 1 and 2,
containing in the aggregate 6,800 feet, beside
8U0 acres of woodland, upon which there are
excellent mill sites within a shoyt distance of
the mines. ;
