VARNEY’S
PATENT AMALGAMATOR.
These Machines Stand Unrlvaled.
For rapidly pulverizing and amalgantating ores, they
have noequal. NoetYort hus been, or will be, spared to
have thom construeted In the most perfect manner, and of
the great number now in operstion, not one has ever reulred repairs. The constant and inercasing demand for
them Is sufticlent evidence ot their merits.
They are constructed so asto apply steam direetly into
tho puip, or wlth steam bottoms, as deslred.
This Amalgamator Operates as Follows:
The pan belng filled, the motion of the muller forces the
pulp to the center, where It Ils drawa down through the ap
erturo and between the grinding surtaces. Thetee It fs
thrown to tho perlphery Into the quicksilycr. The curved
plates again draw itto the center, whiere It pusscs down,
and tothe clreumference as belore. Thus itis constantly
assing in a regular flow between the erlnding surtaces and
ive the quicksilver, until the ore ts redueed to an Impalpable powder, and the metal amalgamated.
Sctlers made on tho same prinelpie excel all others.—
They bring the pulp so constantly and perfectiy In contact
with quicksilver, that the particles are rapidly and com
pletely absorbed.
Mill men aro Invited to examiné these pans and setlers for
themselves, at the PACIFIC FOUNDRY,

PECTOR AND MILLMAN, —
Cab now be procured, at tbe Patentea’s priee, hy sending
your orders, hy mail or otherwise, to the
Office of the Miolog and Scientifie Press.
This article was more fully meationed in the Press of
April 15th, 1865. Sinee that time, however, Mr. Hendy
has made 4 further improvemeut by attaching a rubber
hose between the mouth-picee and the pipe, eaabliog the
biower to change his position without disturbing the direetion or constant accuracy of the current on the object upon
which it ls turned. The maim portioa of the blow-pipe is
made with a joint, at which a valvo is placed, which is
opened when the operator blows aad closed iminediatels
when he ceases. By this arrangement the little bag or
oladder 18 readily litled at asiugle breath, and with very
little exertion. When so filled, a continous current of air
is forced Irom tbo nozzle of the pipe by the mere con.
tractive force of the gutta percha, This foree is uniform
until the air is very nearly exhaused. The current may
be easily varied er entirely eut off by gently pressing the
fingers upon the neck of the bladder above the nipplu to
which it is attached, 6
