The Alining and Scientific Press, 73 Ricu Rocx rom raz Lotistana.—We have seen some very rich specimets from tbe Louisinnu lode, near Coulterville, Mariposa county, which mine we noticed, at considerable lengtb ia our issue of the 20th ult. These specimens are froin a newly opened locality ou this miue, aud more than justify the impressions of its valun which we havo already given. ‘The enterprising pruprictors ofthis mine, Jndge Hesdep of this city, brother aud son, are determined to buveit propertly and thoroughly opened nad worked. ‘To this end they are spending some money in the way of experimenting. ‘Tho Magan desulpharization process, and the Ryerson awulyumuting process, will botb be thoroughly and practically tested. A trial furnace, for the former process, capahte of roasting ten tous at a charge, lias already been once fired up, ‘and worked very satisfuctorily. It is designed to subject the quartz, after pngsed successivoly throagh the Hayun furnuce aud under the ‘stops, to the Ryersou process, for amalgnmntion, in the presnnce of superheated steam. The result of these experiments will be looked for with much interest. Tne Uxceistor Mixers xo Myri.—The reporter of the Virginia Anierprise, who lately Visited the Exeelsior mines, was very much tnken uback, a few dnys sinco, hy a San Francisco gentleman who serioasly approached ond inquired of him if there was really nny importance to he attached to the reports from those mines. ‘The reporter aforesaid immediately took tbo doubting Ihomas to see a large col‘lection of selected rock from thnt locality, which would assuy from $250 to 850,000 to the ton. The doubter being convinced that rock which could produco such mngnificent specimens, must be valnable, in the aggregate, exclaimed in snbstance, “ Why, with such rock 8o hear, are the people of Virginia City talking so mnch about goiug to Montana?” The exclumation was a very reasonnhle one; hut somchow or otber people wil! run off to unexplored fields, and leave much richer ones close ot howo; there is something so fascinating about distant mincs—it is perfectly irrcsistihle to some miners, and ncither facts por logic can drive it out of them. Tre New York Times is discussing the question of an underground railroad, for the relief of Broadway, and showing up its advantages over tbe common tracks in nse. It is eatiniated that the total cost of such a road, extendiug from Bowling Grecn to Central Park, would be about $8,500,000. The estimoted receipts for the first ‘year are $1,500," 000, and the running expenses $541,000—mak™ ing the net earnings $958,000, or about 12 per cent. on the cost. bis estimate is based on a, traffic of 20,000,000 passengers, at an average of scven cents per head. Tbe estimate of traffic is considered quite witbin hounds; in vicw of the fact tbat the traffic of the whole city is computed at no less than 100,000,000 per year: Underground railroads have proved a pecuniary success in London, and are now found an almost indispensable convenience. ‘The-situation of New York will render their eventual establishment in that city equally indispeusahle, and thnt at an carly day. . Sitver Ore rron Lower Cartroania.—The Kohler Bros. Silyer Miuing company received, by the; last trip of the John 'L. Stepbens, from their Espinocena mine, in. the San Antonio district, 1,685 hngs, or 170,000 tons of second-! class orc, assaying on the average $90 to the) ton, of 2,000 pounds. ‘The reports of W.V. Roberts, Haq., tbe iutclligent superintendent of the company’s inines, continue to ho of tbe most favorable description. A former shipment nf twenty-seven tons gave an average assay of BLS to the ton. But onc assessment, and that of only onc dollar per share has been levied, in the last fifteen months. ‘he samc trustces, who have managed the property,so well for the past ycur, were, on the 8th instaut, re-elected for auother term. * 2 a A srrixe among the cellicrs of Northum‘berland, England, has lasted twenty-three weeks, and entailed a loss of $150,000 upon the employers alone. Pan-ranaoat VaLLey.—The Reese River Reveille bas something further from these

Henry Butterfield will go straight to Ruhy with Indians for guides. These mines exceed anything Ieversaw. No mines in your section can compnre with them. This spring they willbe known. There is no snow here, By looking on Bancroft's latest map you will see that the Big Muddy eniptics into the Colorado. It has two sources—one, the east, is in Meadow Valley, and the other, the west, is in Pah-ranagat Valley.” This Buttcrfield—who has for a long time heen employed at the Indian agency as interpreter— was sent to the Pah-ranagat Valley several mocths since from Fort Ruby, by Lieutennnt Seamands.
