Oakland Water-Cure.
—S.) ae
ae 1ST, 1864, WE OPENED A HYGIENIC BOAEDING
House and Ladies’ Health Institute in Oakland. The
great udvantage we have experleuced since that tlme,'in
the treatment and cure ofall those diseases pecullar to females, as well as those common to all, over thatof San
Fruncisco, indiced us to'give up the treatment ‘of gentle:
men in tbe clty. Wehave accordingly removed our entire’
Bathing,, Electro.magnetic, and Gymmastic Apparatus,
which we used especially In the treatment of males, to our . ,
Health lustitute across'tbe Bay, and have found, after a
trial of seven montba, tbat gentlemen as well as lady pa.
tients recover, at our Fountain Farm Cure, one-third Iaster
than In tbe sitrief. San Francisco. The climate here isthe:
mst even and bracing to be found In the State. The grounds
command a View unsurpassed in the world. The’ Instltutlon is furnished with an abundance of pure, soft water,
from numerous springs; and we now offer to Mlulsters,
Teachers, Lawyers, Miners, Merchants, Mcchanles. Farmers, and all other worthy persons, wbo desire to try the.
advantage of the only rational system of medicine, the hospitallties of our Hygienic Home and Cure. Young men
who hnve become debilitated or lost their health by excesslve toil, exposnre, or enervating habits, contracted througb
igueyauce of Physical Laws, may with us find more of tbo
eneouragements they need, and means that wl restore
them to healtb, than elsewbere in Ca:ifornia,
We clalm for Water-Cure and Begg Medleatlon snperlor advantages over nll systems of drug medication tn the
curo of all disorders, whether acute or chronic; tbat Itis
followed hy none of those debilitatiug diseases, such as
Piles, Chronte Diarrhea, Torpid Liver, Constipation, intense Nervousness, Neuralgia, etc,, ner those terrlblé Secondary Discases, known as Varlcose Swelling of the Veins,
Necrosis, or Decaying of the Bones, Ulceration ‘of the
Limbs, Mercurial: Rbeumatism, Uretbal Strictures, etc;
which we well know result from tbe tree use of mercury
sud ‘otber metallic drugs, together witb stimulants and
egetable poisons given to overcome acute diseases,
The Gakiand Water-Care and Eye Infirmary
is by far the most complete in-its facilities for tho cure of
all diseases commonly treatedin all Eastern Water Cures
of any hke establishment on this coast, and the only ono in
California conducted according to the Theory and Practleo
afthe New York Hydropathic College. We usc all torms of
Warm and Cold’ Wet Sheet Packs,-the Electro-Chemical’
Bath, Steam Baths, Improved Sitz Batbs, Doucli Baths,
@ Patent Spray Bath, and Magic Baths. The last named
was instituted by Dr. Smith with special reference to the!
cure of those diseases peculiar to miners, Bamely Rheumatlsm, Inflaminatory or Chronic, Stiff Joints, Paralysls,
Mercurial, Lead, aud Oak Poisonings. Itls@ sure cure for .
Agueand Fever. it alds more than any other Bath we
have yet used In eradlcating all kinds of drugs and infectious poisons, and in the cure of all disorders Induced by
exposure to dampness and water, foulair, absence of lght
and electricity, retorting metais, the malaria of rivers and
low marshy grounds. Where there was 8 fair constltutlon
left, even when drugs had been applied for months and years
withouta cure, we have, in the past seven years, treated
successtully the following diseases: Chronic, fuflammatory
and Mercurial Rheumatism ; Paralysis, Lung, Bronchlal
and Catarrhal Affections; Diseases of the Heart, Kidneys,
Liver; Dyspepeia: Constipation, Eryslpelas, Scrofula, Piles,.
Inflammation of the Bowels, Chreale and Acute Dlarrhoa,
and dll diseases and weaknesses peciliar to male and tcmales. No physiclan in California is so favorably situated
to furnish so many home comiorts and hygienic conditions
that are indispensable to the speedy recovery of nervous.
nud chronle Invalids. We have the only traly healihlul
hoarding place In the State for men, women and children,
with plenty of saddle and carriage horses for the use of.patients and boarders.
To that class of Diseases and Weaknesses pecnilar to females, and themedicatlon that Hydiopatbic or Hygienle
physicians employ in theircure, do we Invite the special
attention of povent and their friends. Tbe easc aud rapidity with which lemales suffering from general or special
dcbillty, recover in the bracing climate of the Bay, under
Hyglenile Medication, tugcther with the universat success
tbat has attended the treatment of females at Dr. Smlth’s
Institutions, (both in Sacramento and San Francisco) has
induccd us to make this class of human affiictious a speciality of our Institution. We have treated (mostly in the
eure), over 300 te males, several of whom had been “bed. )
ridden’ tor months and years, and all have been decidedly
benetited, and wlth but tew exceptions, returned to their
homes ln from two to six weeks, so lar recovered as no loug. )
er to need a physician. We have never yet learned of a
singie lustance of u relapso into their former coudition,
There isnot ono femaie invalid in twenty tbat has been
suifering Irom nervous debility or diseases peculiar to her
sex, that caunlot be permanently cured by spending from
four to six weeks nt our Cure, and at the mere cost of $1ud,
‘This statement we make in confidence, from an oxperlence . .
of. the last seveu years. From the many who have been
treated at our Cure, we have yet to learn of a single regret
irom husband or wlfe of the time or means they have expended in Hygienic Medication. ‘

The relative grinding capacities of “The Excelsior’ Grinder
and Amalgamator, of the Flat Bottomed Pan, and of the Conical
Pan when properly constructed, are respectively 177, 98 and 110.
That is, the respective mullers heing of the same diameter,
same weight, same hardness, and running at the same velocity
The Excelsior Grinder and-Amalgamator” will reduce one hundred and seventy-seven tons of ore, tbe Flat Bottomed Pan ninetyeight tons, and the Conical Pan one hundred and ten tons to the
of fineness in the same time.
. The, wear to the Shoes and Dies at their grinding surfacesin tha
Excelsior Grinder and Amalgamator, is perfectly uniforny, thus
securing evenness of reduction to the pulp, as well as steadiness
of motion to the muller, “Uniform’wear of the grinding plates

‘Another property of excellence in this machine is that the metal
or substance to he amalgamated passes direct from the grinding
the quicksilver ; thus excluding the possibility of its
‘hecoming coated with any foreign substances, after having been
hurnished. It is truthfully said “that the Tractory-formed Pan
as a Grinder has no equal, and as an Amalgamator no superior,”
As a whole, it is far superior to any other pan in use,
