The relative grinding capacities of “The Excelsior” Grinder
and Amalgamator, of the Flat Bottomed Pan, and of the Conical
Pan when properly constructed, are respectively 177, 118 and 132.
That is, the respective mullers being of the ssme diameter,
same weight, same hardness, and running at the same velocity
“The Excelsior Grinder and Amalgamator” will rednce one hnndred and seventy-seven tons of ore, the Flat Bottomed Pan one
hundred and eighteen tons, and the Conical Pan one hundred and
thirty-two tons to the same degree of fineness in the same time,
The wear to the Shoes and Dies at their grinding surfaces in tbe
Excelsior Grinder and Amalgamator, is perfectly uniform, thus
sccuring evenness of reduction to the pulp, as well as steadiness
Uniform wear of the grinding plates
has been attained in no other than that of the Tractory form—nor
of motion to the muller.
can it be.
Another property of excellence in this machine is that the metal
or substance to be amalgamated passes direct from the grinding
surfaces into the quicksilver; thus excluding the possibility of its
becoming coated with any foreign substances, after having been
burnished. It is truthfully said “that the Traetory-formed Pan
as a Grinder has no equal, and as an Amalgamator no superior.”
As a whol, it is far superior to any other pan in use.

PATENT AMALGAMATOR.
These Machines Stand Unrivaled.
For rapidly pulverizing and amalgamating ores, they
have noequal. No effort has been, or willbe, spared to
haye them constructed in the most perfect manner, and of
the great number now In operation, not one has eyerroquired repairs, The constant and increasing demand for
them ls sufliclent evidence ot thelr merits. 4
‘bey are constructed so asto apply steam directly into
the pulp, or witb steam bottoms, as desired.
This Amalgamator Operates as Follows:
The pan belng filled, the motlon of the mnller forces the
pulp to the center, where It is drawn down throngh the aperture and between the grinding surfaces. Thence it is
thrown to the periphery into the quicksilver. Tho curved
Plates again draw it to the center, where It passes down,
and tothe circumferenee as before, Thus It is lor au
assing in 2 regular flow between the grinding suriaces ani
mto the quicksilver, untli the ore Is rednced to an Impaipable powder, and the metal amalgamated.
Setlers mnde on the same principle excel all others—
They bring the pulp so constantly and pertectly In contact
with quicksilver, that the particles are rapidly and eom
pletely absorbed.
Mill men are invited to examino these pans and setlers for
themselves, at the PACIFIC FOUNDRY,
lvl San Francisco.
