10 ie WUning avd Scientific Press. An EncivEER of Toulon has invented a plan for keeping the water in the harbors of the Mediterranean, which isin a perpetual state of stagoation in consequence of the abseoce of tides, constaotly renewed by an ingenious mechanical apparatus. The naval prefect of ‘Toulon, who distioguished himself so mach while the cholera was prevalent in that towo, is about to test this invention. If the trials prove successful, the discovery will be most valuable from a sanitary point of view, as the uohealthiness of many of the ports is chiefly caused by the stagnant water.
