The relative grinding capacities of “The Excelsior” Grinder
and Amalgamator, of the Flat Bottomed Pan, and of the Conical
Pan when properly constructed, are respectively 177, 118 and 132.
That is, the respective muillers being of the same diameter,
same weight, same hardness, and running at the same velocity
“Tho Excelsior Grinder and Amalgamator”’ will reducc one hun»
dred and scventy-seven tons of ore, the Flat Bottomed Pan one
hundred and eighteen tons, and the Conical Pan one hundred and
thirty-two tons to the same degree of finéncss in the same time.
The wear to the Shoes and Dies at their grinding surfaces in tbe
Excelsior Grinder and Amalgamator, is perfectly uniform, thus
securing evenness of reduction to the pulp, as well as steadiness

Another property of excclicncs in this machine is that the metal
or substance to be amalgamated passes direct from the grinding
surfaces into the quicksilver; thus oxcluding the possibility of its

For rapidly pniverizing and amalgamating ores, they
have noequal, No effort has been, or will be, spared to
have them construeted in the most perfect manner, and of
the great bumber now in operation, not one has everrewired repairs. The constant and inereasing demand for
them is sufficient evidenee of their merils.
They are constructed so asto apply steam dlreetly into
the pulp, or witi steam bottoms, as desired.
This Amalgamator Operates as Follows:
The pan being filled, the motion of themulier forces the
“pulp to the center, where itis drawn down throngh the aperture and between the grinding surlaces, Thence it is
thrown to the periphery into the quicksilver. The eurved
Plates again drawit to the center, where it passes down,
and lo the cireumference as before. Thus itis constantiy”
passing in a regular flow between the grinding surtaces ani
Into the qnicksiiver, untii the ore is reduced 10 an impaipabie powdcr, and tiie inctal amalgamated,
Setlers made on the same principle exeel all others.—
They bring the pulp so constantiy and perfectly in eontact
with quicksilver, lbat the particles are rapidly and com
pletely absorhed,
Mili men are Inyited to examine these pans and setlers for
themselves, at the PACIFICO FOUNDEY,

BAUX & GUIODS
Amalgamator Scparator &
Is the most important improvementin mining machinery
ever introduced, It was awarded the FIRST PREMIUM at
the San Francisco Mechanics’ Fair for 1864, where it proved
itself to be the best_Scparator and Amalgamator among ail
the eompetitors, Constructed on principles whieh combine
Screntiric KNOWLEDGE WITH PaacticaL ExprRrience, these
Pans extract nore goid and silver trom their ores than wei,
others in use, as afew hours triai wiii demonstrate. Mill
men will find it to their advantage to employ these pans as
Separators, in addition to the ordinary Amalgaturs now in
use, and to re-work their old tallings.
The cost of these pans is inconsiderable, and their structure is such that they can be readily separated in parts convenient for pee ne: on mules. Among the many advantaes possessed by BAUX & GUIOD’S Pan, are the following:
‘ine trifling cost for attendance: Its small eost; Its ortabllity; The large quantity of pulp ifean operate upon in a given time; It may be worked cven weeks withont stopping,
as it is constructed to work continnously; The complete
thgroughness of the separation of the rock from the metals
antl the trifling power required to work them; They can be
attached to any ordinary crushing apparalus.
We have the pleasure of referring parties interested to
the foliowlng partics, who have our Pan in use: Jeffersonian Mining Company, Bowman's Ranch, Nevada county,
The French Mill, Nevada City, Crall’s Gravel Cement
