The Mining and Scientific Press. 181
From the Stock Circular of Associated Brokers of the 8. F. Stock & Kixchange Board.
Ee oe
Saw Francisco, Sarunnar Monnixo, Sept. 22d, 1866.
The Money Market siaco our last reference hus been characterized by
rather mere ease in some quarters, and the deposit line in Bank shows a
slight accumulation of nvailable funds. In the epen market, hewever, the
same stringency prevailing for seme time past still eontinucs, and the demaad
for fair eccnrities is very active at full ratcs—14@24 af” cent. per month,
These quotations aro governed, in most instances, by the character of the
collateral oflered. Miuing stocks are not in favor os n bnsis of loans, ond
few or fio negotiations can be made upon this class of scenrities even ata
wide range from current market value. ‘The depression of the Sharo Market
for so lone atime has heen inno slight degree effected by the iaability of
operators to obtain fncilitics in Bank or upon the strect.
We quote Gold Bars nt previous figuree—S30@840. Silver Barn range
from 14 ro 1} 4p cent. We learn of a choice lot selling at 13 ¢f centdisconnt.
Currency Drafts on the East scll at 38 4” cent, premium on gold; and
Coin Drafts are made at 24 df” ceut.
Telegraphic Transfers aro made at 34 ¢f cent. premium. Sterling commands 49d. for 60 days’ bills.
Oni latest telegraphic advices from New York qnoto Gold at 1454.
City Stocks remain inaetive, and tho Board note no sales during the past
week. On the 19th instant the Trustees of the San Francisco and Oakland
R. R. Company sold at auction 400 shares of their stock within a range o¢
$51@45 per share. Tbo capitnl stock of tbis company is $500,000, composed of 5,000 sharea at $100 per sharo—full paid. Cnlifornia Steam
Navigation Company is held at 374 bid. Stato"Telegraph can he obtained
at $314. Spring Vallcy Water Company is quoted at $64 asked. San
Francisco Gas Company is now hehl at $130 bid.
Legal Tender Notes were qnito active daring the weck just closed, and
nearly $100,000 were sold, opening at Tific., steadily improving to 72, and
sclling yesterday at 714. U. S. 7-30 Bonds, July issuc, sold at 75@764e.
The Mining Shnre Market for tho past week exhibits no improvement
from the elosing quotations of last week, and a reduced number of shares of
the several companics have been dealt in. Ycllow Jacket attraeted tho most
attention, the samo shnres repeatedly changing hands daring the varions
sessions of tho Board. Several leading stocks bave been well maintained,
and the depression sometimes apparent after the payment of dividends is now
quite notieeablo.
Ilale & Nereross coatinnes to be firmly held, and for sevcral weeks past
no sales have transpired in the Board. At the close we quote it at $1,680
bid. This mine, wo learn, is inan excellent producing condition, and up to
the 17th instant, some 1,900 tons of orc have heen delivered to Custom Mills,
65 4f? eent. of the assay value of whicb gives a yicld of about $92,000, equal
to a fraction over $48 per ton.
Savage has met with few entes, declining from $1,145 to $1,120, rallying
to $1,140, dropping to $1,105, s 30, and closlng yesterday at $1,100.
This miao presents no unfayerable features. Inthe north Potosi chimney,
4th station, tho deposit of ore, in running south, has widened and is of a
better quality. Some improvement has been met with in the west seam,
gamo station. On the 17th instant—in the south drift of the Curtis shaft—
the eennection between this mine and the Hale & Norcross ground was
effected. It developed nothing of importance, and for the present only serves
for ventilation, preving of considerabio advantage in this respect. During
the weck ending 15th instaat, 441 tons ef ere wero extracted from the miac
the approximate vulue of which is about $19,845, and the expense of producing and reduction $12,733, leaving o net protit ef $7,107. This company
uow ciuploy 139 persons,
Crown Point is qnite inactive, and trifling sales were mado iluring the
past week, opening at $890, improving te $915, buyer 30, then decliaing te
$875, s 30, and closing yesterday at $825 bid. We learn of some improvementin this mine, and the lower drift, it is snid, is looking much better.
During the week endiag September 16th, 652 tons of ore bavo been produecd. :
Yellow Jacket has been very actively dealt in, some 300 feet having
ehunged hands during the week. It opened ut $735, ox-dividend, advaneed
to $750@$765, bayer 30, then fell to $705, eeller 10, and elosed yesterday
at $685. Froin the lst to tho 16th inst. 204 tons of first-class and 4,025
tons of second-class oro have heen extracted from themine, yielding
about $118,800 from partial returns, or an averago of nearly $30 4” ton.
The average yicld of the present moath will, it is thoaght, fully equal that
of August. This company now employ 135 miners, 28 carmen, 37 prospectors, 21 meebanics, and 22 outside men—total 243.
Gould & Curry has not heen inquired for during the past weck ; two feet
sold yosterday nt $600. We have learned nothing unfavorable in regard to
this mine,
Ophir has been sold at a deelino from fermer quotations, opening at
$210, advanciag to $212 50, receding to $205, then selling at $180, seller
30, and at the close sold at $200. The werk of sinking the shaft to a further depth of 100 feet, is being vigorously prosecuted, and is now down
about 20 feet below the nintb station. Tho shipments of low grade ores,
for the week ending September 12th, amonnted to 186 tons, the average
assay being $50 4f ton; and of first-class ore for the fortnight ending September 15th, 37 tons at an average of about $350 ¢f” ton, making an ageregate yicld of $22,250.
Cbollnr-Potosi declined from $137.50 to $130, rallied to $135, then drepped to $118, closing yesterday at $115. Wo aro infermedof n slight
improvement in several stations of this mine—nothing amounting to anything special. Some 460 tons of oro were shipped to eustom mills during
the weck ending Sept.15th. This company at present employ 85 men.
Beleher has also declined, opening at $125@$126, reecding to
$122.50, then adyaneing to $126 b. 30, and selliag yesterday at $115 h 30.Empire Mill and Mining Company was sold fer $77.50 early in the week,
and we quote it at the elose at $65 bid. The reecipts of this eompany are
said to be in excess of the usual returas. Weean learn of notbing to jnstify the reeent decline of this stock.
Imperial has not heen well maintaiaed, opening at $92 and closing at
$84. Sinee our last issue abeut $16,000 in bullion have been received.
Tbo new shaft—known as the Imperial-Empire shaft—has attained a depth
of 575 feet.
Confidence has deelined from $55 to $47 seller 30, and sold yesterday at
$94. Bullion sold at $20@19. Overman receded from $9 to $54, closing
at $4 50@4. Sierra Nevada sold at $5@54, and Exchequer at $1@75c.
The aggregate sales of stocks, Legal Tender Notes, ete., since Saturday
amounted to $381,995.50.
