Its variation from his former plan eonsists in the manner in whicl the body of the concentrator is supported, doing away with tho apper frame-work and disearding the apparatus for raising the distributor, ns the hoisting of the same is rendered useless by the concentrator being self-discharging. The machine hero represented is fastencd to and sapported hy an apright stnndard andcrncath, which is held and worked in a deep step. The motion is imparted hy citber ono or two connecting rods, adjusted to hall-crank pins. Tho engrnving itself well illustrates the new mnchine to the eyes of those familiar with tho working of this class of gold and salphuret savers, while thoso Icss-acquainted with their operations are referred to the last pago of to-day’s issne for further description and illastration. Mr. Heudy‘s new coneentrator can ho seen in working operation at the Union’ Foandry, in this Giev ZAP! a KG city. Tbe inventor will continuo to snpply the former style of machines to those who may prefer them on account of their having been long and successfully used. Two of the old pattern were purchased during the past week for Arizona, by Mcasrs. Reed & Tyson. Tue ArLantic Cane.—Before the great Atlantic cable bnd been in operation two weeks, and although it was found to work ns well as the most sauguine of its originators had anticipated, it wns, nevertheless, found to be totally inndequato to perform tho work required of it. So great was the demnond made upon the managers, thnt it would soon have been found necessary to greatly increase the already high rate of tariff fixed, in order to put a stop to the transmission of trivial messages of no basiness importance, but which must, nevertheless, take their turn to the exclusion of more important matters, had not the broken cable beeu fortnnately picked up and secured, thus giving ag two wires, one of which will be constantly occupied in transmitting messages to Europe, while the other will be exclusively devoted to return telegrams. The time is not far distant when another pair of wires will be found indispensable to transact the basiness which must continue to increase, as does all kinds of business, in proportion to the facilities for transacting the-sanie. =_ Fing Marore Worxr.—Our friends in the country, as well as those in the city, in want of good marble work, such as mantels, monuments, tombs, plambers’ slahs, etc., will do well to call on Mr. John Daniel, 408 Pine strect, where a largo assortment of nll tbe above kinds of marble manufacture are kept constantly on hand. Individuals calling upon him personally, or sending thcir orders from a distance, can always rely apon having them promptly and faithfully attended to.
