409 " NEW PATENTS AND INVENTIONS. PATENTS RECENTLY ISSUER. Mrastrivo Faucet.—Seba Squiro Wiles, Santa Clora, Cal.: 1 cloim, lat. Ths foucet composed of the barrel, A, and tbe feed and dischurye passages, C and D, with ths valve, d, operated substantially us described. 2d, In combination with the devices obuve clnimed, I cinitn the scale, 0, index, b, and piston, B, with its rod, ¢, wil arranged to operate substartially as and for tho purposo set forth. As Iuproven Brrck Kix has been introduced in England, designed to economize the heat employed in burning brick. By this arTilgement, first, the gaseous prodncts of the fuel ars all saved for consumption ; second, tho heat passing off from a buroing kiln is made to puss through another kiln, just set up, thus drying the new fresh bricks, and raising them gradunlly to a high lsat. bsfore any fuel is placed in ths kiln to complete the burning ; thirdly, ths heat from the cooling of tho first kiln, ufter being burnt is econoniized, by causing it to pess into a kiln just lighted, to supply the Gre with air for coaibustion. ‘hua it will be perceived that every particle of the fuol ia perfectly econoiaized, and even the radiating heat is pretty effectually employed, by being mode to aid ia the various stages of the work. All this is accomplished by constructing the kila in such a manner as to constitute a circular tunael, divided into twelve or nore compartments, with a doorway to each. A Boston armst has the pateat right for tho United States of a aew invention for outdoor photogrophing. ‘The camera is called “ pantoscupic.” ‘The lens, by means of mechanism, is made to move stcadily around the circle, so ag to tako a panoramic picture instead of a view of a single point. ‘he plate slides alovg at a correspoading rate. RECRNT INVENTIONS. A New Process ror Marino Gas from wood and other substances, has beea devised hy Mr, Hnsley,a Canadiaa, by which it is claimed that 4.500 feet of gas can be obtained from half a cord of wood aad a barrel of bones. But this is not the oaly saving. When these articles are consataed, accordiag to Mr. Ensley's directions, there is little or no waste of values; but simply a traasmutatioa into other commodities of nearly eqaal value, to which the gas is superadded. The wood yields not only gas, bot charconl, tar and turpentine. The bones give a residuum of ivory-black, phosphotus and amnionia; and tbe vegetable substances, residuums of other things. In this maaner the gas becomes, as it were, a aiere incideutal feature, manufactared only at a miaimum expense, but of an excellent kind. Setr-rastenine Borroxs.—— Numerous attempts have beea made at various times to introduce a method of securiag bnttons on clothing which should supersede the process of sewing. ITitberto the object has not been effected, owing to the several drawbacks which lave arisea to bar the practical application of a mechaaical fastening. Now, however, the difficulty appears to have heen overcome by a most simpls contriveuce. This iavention, which has just been patented, consists in constructing buttons with shaaks formed of a strip of metal or wire, upoa the principle of the wellkaowa paper fastener, aud provided with a washer made witb an aperture just large enough to allow of the two plates of the shank when in coatact passiag throagh it. Tbe plates or wires aro of such metal as allows of their being bent without breaking. An Inproven Piow.— Messrs. Baxter & Blake are haviag cast at the Globo Foundry, of Stockton, an improvement oa the Boston Clipper plow, concerning which tbe Jndependent of that city says: The main standard is somewhat higher thaa the original Clipper, and is likewise broader at the top. Mr. Buxter claims the improvement in the “ standard," while Mr. Blake is eatitled to the credit of inaking valuable improvements in the moldboards, shares and luudsides. ‘The poiats and mold-boards aro cast. from 2 metal known as “ white amalgam,” which is as hard as glass, and, at the same time, is difficalt to break. Mr. Yolland, Mr. Castle, aad other fariners, have tested the plows, and find them to bo all that is claimed by thé inveators. In either saady or adobe land they work toa charm, aud from the peculiar hardaess of the metal composing the mold-boards and poiats, they possess the merit of outwearing aay other plow in use. Efendy’s Latest Improved Conecutrator. By this improvement tbe conical feeding distributor has been entirely done away wlth. The feed In thls inachine is made to enter the conical hopper; from theneo It passes throuch the hollow arm, leadlug to the T attachment, marked TR, which Is made to sweep slowly around the elreumterenee of the pan, by means of the rachel teeth upon the upper edge of the same, into wileh two pawls are sven to work. This motion is obtained from the vibrating aetlon of the pan, usin common use. Upon tho under side of the T attachment to the arm, are small openlngs or perforations, throngh whieh the pulp ls dropped from the feeder into the pun. The constant revolution of this urm seeures a nore uniform feed than cau be obtalued from the eonleal feeder. A setof stlrrers, wlth small projectors or teeth Is shown, whleh Is aiso kept in revolution with the feeding arm, tbe deslyn of whieh Is to prevent the sand from packlng near the center, whero the motlou is diminishing. The discharge oriflee and box for reeciving the sulphurets will ho read!ly dlstingulshed at box ©. These pans may be so connceted, as in the ent, that two can be driven by one shalt andipulleys. These machiues have heen thoroughly tested, and pronounced a perfect success, Certificates: AmApbor, Jnly 20tb, 1866.
