Biack Rock—
The Marysville Appeal says: Accounts
from the Bluck Rock mining district continue
favurable. The Sage Brush mentiuus the
working of ore at Dall’s mitl, which was taken
froin the Eureka lude at a depth of 40 leet,
that yielded a frectiou nnder $44 to the ton.
It seems to be established to the satisfaction
of those interested, the lodes of that vicinity
may be profitably worked.
Pahranagat.—
The Gold Hill News says: Colonel U. E.
Allen writes from Silver Canon, Pahranugat,
June 24th, “that the mines here are richer
than any yet discovered in this State, although
but little prosperting has been done up ta the
(present time. Yetinark amy words, that’ in
one veur or less, this district will rull out silver
bricks in qnanhties sufficient to shame theCoistuck in her paliniest days.”

thut it is, or can be, worked with great Iucility,
being only one-hutl! mile frum the mill, and on
nearly the same level. Only the snrface ores
will be available now, ol which there are a
great abundance. Mr. Rugers is working a

Woulsey’s water mill, five stainper, will be ranning in n werk or sn, crushing rock from vein

(Watker's), ‘Tyson is opening the Gencho vein.
They are now down only about twenty feet.
The ore is gvod, and L am told is still improving. Qu the Occidentul we hear today that
they crashed in their pony 2-stamp mill, three
tons of ore which yiehled $L.10u0. This is a
very small vein, but is reported to be very rich
and to be widening oat. A few hundred yards
above Berger’s mill, fonr men, who made a
flume to hring the water to a little gnich,
washed 300 lst week. bere are a good

Sune, under date of June 10th. has the following; We may sulely say there is a continuous runge of gold bearing rock Irom near
Wickenberg to ten mites north of Prescott,
and Irom the Lower Hassinmpa to the Agua
Frio; which would emhruce an orea of at least
100 square wiles. ‘The containing rack is
uearly the sume in this eutire section. Some
fine vres were lately brought in roma new
locality, directly on the Agua Frio, about
thirty miles ia an air line south of Prescott.
There are copper ores, which prospect well lor
geld. ‘The discoverers have gone oat agnin to
prospect for placers. ‘Thisig a slow cuantry
to get aroand in, unless a inan has a hig pile
to pay his way. LI have, however, seea enough
to sutisly oe that this is either a huge country
oran unparalleled bilk. Without time and
money not much can be done; still my opivion
is very favorable. ‘

A letter from tho North John Day minee to
the Dulies Aluuntaineer, of July Loéth, says:
Burnt river snd Olive creek draw their head
waters from the same mountain chain—the
first flowing to the eust into Suuke river; the
latter being the John Day. All ubvut the
heads of these streoms are rich and very extensive gold washings, ag yet but partially developed. On Greenhorn gulch, an uffluent ol
Burot river, the depth is trom six to -filteen
feet, and on Ruse and Quartz guiches, which
empty into Olive creek, it varies Irom ten to
fitty teet. Prospects are obtuined from top to
bottom, and seventy-five cents tu the pan has
been found thirty leet Irom the bed rock on
Quartz gulch. ‘There aro ubout one hundred
and lilty miners on the head woters of Burnt
river ; aud twice as many moreon Olive creek
and its gulehes. Granite creek has about one
hundred and twenty-fve operative miners.
There are two or three sinall compsnies working-on Clear creek, below the mouth of Bull's
Run. Olive creek diggings ore fully ae good
as those in the Buise Basin, aod even more
extensive. ‘The chance tu get bold of guod
grouud is incomparally better.
A reliable gentleman who has just returned
from the Middle Fork mines, expresses the
opiniun that with unotber season these nines
will give employment to from two or three
thoasaid men. The fact, is established, thuta
goud mining district has beendiscovered. ‘lhe
placer diggings ure extensive.. Mune Colambia river was rtpidly rising for the third time
this season.
IDAHO,
~
The World of June 30th, says the emigration from the Buise Basin to Montana is aguin
on the increase, the giving out of the water in
some localities having set the miners free to
fo prospectiug.” It speaks of the folly of
thus leaving a “good camp” for an ancertainty, and quotes Irom the letter of an Idaho
miuer tu Elk City: ** Miners who intend coming up here to work for wages, will do better
to try Placerville, Pioneer City, !daho City, or
alt of these places first, and if they caa get
from foar to five dollars per day, they had hetter etay and work ia preforence to traveling
over a hurd road all snimmer, oud ranning the
risk of getting no employment at ull.

Same paper hes seen a specimen of ore from
the Sonora ledge, Altura county. Lt contains
several Bukes of pure gold, as thick as common
window-glass, two inches long by one inch
wide. We quote: ' There is only one sean
ul this pure stuff. Vhe ledge 13 said to be
well defined und seven feet wide, and all the
ora worth $60 per tun. Weulso were shown
some specimens of silver ore Irom the Athiula
ledge, in the same district It looks very rich
and is Irvin a big vein. Col. Preston is owner
in each of the ubuve ledges.

In White’s gulch, a short time since, at No.

from a ran of ten hours, with foar hands $1,265.
..A 2t-stump mill is to be erected by John

COLORADO.
From the Jourud of June 26th we clip the,
following items: A lot of Rochdale ore is tu
be tested at Keith's. If satislactory, the com:
pany will pat upa Keith furnace and go to
work... The Bertola mills are soon to be
sturted..Soine parties are sinking a shaft on
a new lode iu the lower edge of town, called
Vaudervilt. At thirty five feet in depth they
have a crevice nbout three leet wide, eight)
inches of which is luir-looking ore, assaying’
richly in silver and gold..’The Consolilated
Gregory twine is being got into shape now with
rapidity. ‘lhe main shaft is now finished to a
depth of 260 feet. ‘Ihe levels have been
sturted, one of which is in seveaty feet. Considerable ore is being takea out.. . lhe Osceola mill ia 10 be started aaew on rock lroin the
Qniney lode..A qnarter of a pound of ore
trom the Belnont produced forty-eight cente
worth of silver, over a blucksmith's lorge..
Experiments with Prof. Wertz’s sodium amalgam are making here, and the indications are
that its use will be found highly advanotagcous.
We are told that the yield nf the Nerragansett
inill was increased in its last week’e ran by its
use niore than thirty per cent...A wagon
load of ore trom the Texas lude produced 23%
pennyweights of gold..Mr. Du Buis has his
uew inill all enclosed, the furnace finished, and
the slack more than hall finished. At the
Keith mill they are agaia heating up. The
B. H. company have begun to excavate ubove
their new mill fora Keith Furosce addition.
‘The furnace of the Hope company is running
steadily, and we believe giving satisfaction. ..
Plummer’s mill will be started ns snoa as the
boiler arrives..The Chicugo company are
settiug up ove of Fuller’s lead mactines..
The South Park Mi ing and Exploring com
pany has purchased 2,000 feet on the De Murcy
tude, and raised a lund fora working capital.
They will gto work at once.
Kditorial of same puper says: We do not
think there is a prospect of more stemp mills
starting. It is sow known that they nre warse
than nothing, because they save so little of the
value of the-ores while rapidly exhausting the
mines. We tnust depend on some other process. * * ‘The Sierra Madre works, which
coutemplate the smelting of the gold, silver,
ami copper isto a mat, will ere lung be in
operation. ‘The Ford Mining company is rapidly completing stielting works on the same
plia as Lyon's, we believe, only of smaller
capacity. Hach of these has a different machine tor cutting ores, of-which, from what we
have seen, we are inclined to give tho preference to Collom's, adopted by Mr. Ford. The
Clark-Gardoer company is also erecting smelting works after the Lyon pattern. Furnaces
are being erected by at least three companies
in the Georgetown and Snake River silver
mines. Lxperiments are making is Nevada
by Beverly & Cuutpany, and we think the
King compauy is looking in the same direction.
Iv is possible that both of these latter ure now
building works, Atl af these it is our belief
will he worked ta profit when once thorenghly
going, especially if provisiuns and everything
lal in price a3 seems probable, nay, certain.
The Consolidated Gregury, the Corydon, the
Benton and the Sisty, can still puy expenses,
und will not stop their mills.
