—a el Nl The Rlining and > vientitic Drees. 245 New Incorporations. April 17th—Cambridge Mining Company: Lode near Grass Valley. Capital stock $250,000 ; divided into $1,000 shares. Trusfees: D. W. C. Rice, Wm. Blnnding, W. H. V. Cronise, W. E. Dean, Milton Bulkley, and W. B. Cummings. April I3th.—Potrero Company: To establish a mnnn factory for oils and othcr ehcmicals. Cnpital stoek, $40,000, in 800 shares of $50, ‘Trnsteca: M. Burkhardt, M M. Estee, James L, Beyea, Henry I. Goddard, and A. D. Piper. 7. > Tue Qvieksi.ver Mrxix¢ Company.—We have received a copy of the annual report of this eompany. The pnmphlct contains the President's report to tho stockholders, af the annual mecting in Philadelphia, Febrnary 27th, and also that of tho snperintendent of the mine (New Almaden) to the President. The condition of the company is stated to be better than at any previons period, notwithstanding tho low price of quicksilver, due to increased production without a corresponding increase in demand. The total world’s production for 1866, was, in round numbers, 85,000 flasks. Of this, 35,000 was from this mine. A Yourn’s History or Canrrornia.—A. Roman & Co., the publishers of this work, have sent nsacopy. It isa neat 12mo. of 187 pages. Heretofore, ‘‘ Notes” of sometimes questionable authority, and ‘‘Annals” of formidable dimensions, havefurnished the California school-boy with the only means of an acquaintance with the history of his own State. This little volume commends itself as giving the salient points in such history, in concise and attraetive form; and its perusal would do no harm to many a San Franciscan of larger growth. An Intrrestina Map.—We have seen a proof sheet of the map of: Sierra county, now being prepared by Messrs. Crossman & Cochrane. Besides everything else which one wonld expect to find on such a map, it delineates the eourse of the nncient rivor ehnnnels, so far as they have been defined. Crossing as they do, the present river channels, these beds of anriferons cement and gravel are especially interesting to the miner and the geologist. Anrrricran Icr.—Mr. W. R. Frink has exhibited to usasample of ice made by him from Spring Valley water. This ice was made bya machine manufactured in, this city, under his direction, and the first work of the kind done on this coast. The machine weighs only about eighty pounds, and is capable of producing twelve pounds of ice at one heat— heating is tho proper term to use, although Freezing is the result. We shall give a more extended notice of the process and machine next week. Unirep States Derury Surveyor ror District, No. 9.—Rudolph D. Henreuse has been appointed U. 8. Deputy Surveyor for the countiesof Kern, Tulare, San Diego, Los Angeles and San Bernardino—constituting mineral district No. 9. Paumer’s Parent Artivicran Lec is said to be the best in the world. Jarvis Jewett is the agent, at 629 Washington street, San Francisco. .
