Government had reduced the national dues 3 per cent., and those on mines 1% per cent, There was a general desire ang conviction among three-fourths of the mem— hers in Congress for carrying out free trade principles. Mr. Romero’s long residence at Washington as Minister Plenipotentiary was considered a most favorahle circum: stance for supporting those views, as he himself is a great advocate of free trade. Mr. Romero had likewise informed foreign mine owners that overything would he done to favor their interests, and that his Goy ernment would do everything to induce foreign capitalists to enter into mining and other speculations, by passing in Congress many measures for the special protection of mining and other branches of industry. A hill had heen also passed in Congress for the suppression of highway robhery, and for establishing martial la-v in all the proviners, hy which minor authorities could at once proceed to judge and couvict within 48 hours, and apply capital punishment, We may here call attention to the circular published in this day’s Jow-nal of the New British Mining Agency, that has heen estahlished in the city of Mexico by Mr, Stewart Auld, who is so well knownin connection with mineral industry. — London Mining Journal. New Principie in Concentration—Dry Mzrrop.—A patent has been obtained in Washington and Ottawa, hy S. T. Pearce, the Superintendent of the Buckingham Plumhago Works, Canada, for a new dry method of concentrating all kinds of ore, hy the employment of centrifugal force in connection with graduated receivers; doing” away with the use of water, hy which so mnch minetal is now lost. It is now claimed that ore separation is done hy this method by mechanical means alone, without the employment of manual lahor, and that it is as simple as the hilling of grain.
