The Mining and Scientific Press. TreaTMENT or Ones ScviraBLE For CuLonisation. —The Clorination process is working wonders for and wido, A geutleman who owns a mill nnd mine over near Vlacerville informed ns n few days siucc, that after working off the top or deeom posed freo gold ore, the mino failed to pry expenses and he closed tho mill. Some parties from San Franciseo came along n few imonths since and offered a fair prico for the nso of the property, which he accepted and they in the fnee of scoffs nnd jeers from “practienl” millmen, employed n yonng nian who hnd never had anything to do with a mill beforc, a student fresh from one of the private mining schools of San Francisco, who went to work and put the mill in order and now tho same rock that hefore would not pay six dollars per ton is turning ont sixty, nnd making a splendid profit to all concerned. The chlorinntion proccss has proved profitablo in every case tricd, whero there has becn a good supply of sulphurets and under good inanagement throughout California, and is to bointrodnecd in Arizona, Preparatory to tho introduction of ehlorine gas nnd the snbsequent manipulations—which extract 0 to 96 per cent. of rll the precious metals contained in the ore—tho ore mnst ho roasted, thercfore nny cheapening of this now expensive operation will bo hniled ns a bencfaction. Cheap nod rnpid pulverizntion, concentration, mechanical rorsting and chlorination combined, secm to be the “coming plan,” which shall make mining permancntly profitable.— Alpine Miner. Brronaxt Younc on Mrnrxe.—-The Mormon nutoernt reccntly made the following speech to several of the faithful : “Gentlemen,” said he, ‘I understmd some of yon are going to the Pharanagat mines. Yon are very hopeful, I observe, but yon will lose your money; mark my words. he ore is there, true enough; but not one mine in fifty cnn be profitably worked in America until wnges nre 25 cents adny, as in Germany, instead of $6 as at your mines, the expense of reducing your oro will swallow up nll the revenue and mneh more. It won't do. What wonld my commnnity be to-dny if it had taken to mining instead of agriculture? Set one hundred men to mining and ten to farming, and at the end of ten yenrs the ten will be worth more thon the one hnndred, and probably have to feed them gratuitously. You say that it is possible thant my views on this subject mny he changed. They may be enlarged, and for your sakes I hope they will. But I can only rcpent my fullest conviction that you are doomed to bitter disappointments and heavy losses,” Tr anp Gannet.—Mr, J. Alden Smith, of the Register, who is perfectly reliable as n mineralogist, pronounces the Summit County snpposed tin ore an iron garnet, and not in the slightest degree relatcd to tinore, If it weren’t socommon, we would say, just as wethought. We didsuspect as much.— Rocky Mountain News, Sept, 2d. Tru Smith gold mine, in Spottsylvania County, Virginia, containing 100 acres, was receutly sold ata trust snle for $1,400.
