Meteors axp Cosers,—Professor Pep.
per, in his Lenten Lectures on * physical
astronomy,” at the London Royal Polytechnic, stated that fourteen years aga Dr.
Bedford discovered the relution between
meteor and comet, and announced their
netual identity ; that at the time, and long
since, it was regarded as mere theory ; but
within the last two yenrs astronomers have
proved the truth of Dr. Bedford's discovery, which was made by a careful comparison’of recorded plenomenn from the earliest times. The VDrofessor suid thnt it had
been proved by fivo mathematical elements
of the orbits of five several comets nud meteors, and that tho discovery is regarded as
one of the grandest additions ta ustronomicul seience; and stated that Dr. Bedford
lias propounded entirely new theories of
astrononiy, whielt are most profound and
very interesting, and we!l worthy ef heing
studied.
