cientific 413 The Mining and $ Press. ConpitTIon OF THE MiyinG INTERESTS IN Anizona.—Gov. McCormick's message to the Legislature of Arizona, which recently convened, has tho following pithy review of the condition of the mining interests in that Territory: The Wickcenbnrg gold mines are workcd without interruption and steadily yield a largerevenne. ‘The Vulture lode, the Comstock of Arizona, now lias a wide and merited fame, It is one of tho richest, most extcnsive and remarkalile deposits of gold quarty npon thecontinent, and its return to this time is believed to be but an earnest of what may be expected from it in tho future, Unfortunately the mills erected in the vieinity of Prescott were pnt cither npon worthless lodes or upon those in which ores predominate which cannot be mado to pay by ordinary treatment. The chlorination process has lately been introduced there, and it is expected it will prove successfulas in California and Colorado. If snch is the case, the hopofnl people who have clung to that part of the Territory, under most annoying delays and disappointmeots, will specdily reap the reward due to their patience and pertinacity. Upon the Colorado River little is doing in mining; the low price of copper has not warranted the continuous working of the lodes at William’s Fork and othr points, althongh a renewal of operations at an early day is promised. From the Eureka District there isa stcady and profitable shipment of lead ore to San Francisco, and work npon several silvor lodes in that district is vigorously prosecutcd, as it is on several gold lodes near La Paz and Hardyville. Below the Gila, the Cababi mines con. tinne to yield a good return of silver, and a fine mill is in process of erectiou at Apache Pass, where the gold lodes are attracting much attention and give exccllent promise. Confidence in the mineral resources of the Territory is unshaken, and those most famiiliar with them believe that once secure from Indian depredations and madeaccessible by the iron rail, Arizona will take front rank among the gold and silver-producing districts of the world. KImAvEA AGAIN ACTIVE —TEARTHQUAKES. The volcano of Kilauea is again active. Advices from Hawaii state that a severe shock of earthquake was felt cn the 16th of November, and a letter just received, dated Nov. 27th, says: For ‘‘the last ten or twelve days earthquakes have been much more frequent than during three months preceding. The atmosphere has also much of tho time been filled with smoke, which seems to como from Mauna Loa.” ROOM HANDLES.
