In summer timo when tho thermometor
stands np in the hundreds, ice is one of the
eppreciahlo luxurics of life, and in some
climates where the cold is not intenso
enough to freeze ice readily, and whore tho
cold snapsaro of short duration, it is difficult to obtain. This invention is intended
to overcome thoso diffienlties, aud consists
of a honse or nnmber of houses, arranged
with numerous doors, which may be thrown
open at night to lower the temperaturo of
tho room. <A pipeor pipes which are perforated pass throngh tho room, and water
is admitted into them from a tank, or otherwise. The water drips through tho holes in
the pipes, and falling, congeats and forms
ice. Branches of trees may ho placed boneath tho pipe, in orderto more thoroughly
divido the water, by its falling upon them,
causing it to freczo almost instantly. By
this means ice-can ho formed in climates
whicre the ontsido atmosphere does not affect solid bodios of wator, forming in a
solid mass of ice.

RECENT INVENTIONS.
New System or Propuusion.—A gentleman of Detroit, Mich., has invented a new
system of propulsion, which he claims will
revolutionize the present steam method.
His plan consists of fonr iron air-tight cylinders, cone-shaped at the ends, which run
the entire length of the boat. In these cylinders are shafts, on which are adjusted
continuous screw threads answering for
buckets. With these he expects to he ahle
to propel a hoat at tho rate of thirty-five
miles an hour,
