92 The Mining and Scientific Press, Kaonmy t Nevapa—tThe Reese River Reveille is informed that an extensive bed of Kaolin in porcelain clay, has been discovered at Mount Tenabo, in the district of Cortez. It was recently discovered in the workings of the Garrison mine, and the specimens exhibited have been pronounced yery fine by competent judges. The peculiar clay results from the decomposition of feldspar; the change consisting ina removal of the alkali, potash, with part of the silica, and the addition of water. It occurs in extensive beds in many granite regions, and is the material used for making chinaware. Tre Chinese were the first to attempt to measure time. According to their historical books, the Emperor Fohi, who lived 2,952 years before the commencement of our era, stndied the celestial bodies with great attention. The idea of dividing the day into equal parts by means of the sun’s dinrnal motion is very ancient, and the first contrivance of the kind probably consisted in sticking a spear into a plane surface. Tae Goup Mrxzs or New Hamesume. We see it stated that Professor Hitchcock proposes to visit the gold mines of New Hampshire the coming fall, and give the pnblic the resnlt of his investigations.
