Thero lé no disgutsing the fact that onr local moncy
market is somewhat stringent, although uo diffleulty is
expericneed in making loans for legitimate purposes on
scceptahlo paper, at 14{@1%5 per cent. per month; but
speculative designs are frowned down, thoir projectors
being compelled to submit to harder terms, When gold
took its lait upward flight in New York large amounts
were forwarded from here to secure the premium; hut
it may be douhted whether tha operation was wise. It
is true that merch was p d and placed in
this market at greatly reduced figurea; hut tho market
was bared of coin, snd the stringeney which succended
exerted such a depressing cffect upon business that the
bulk of tha gooda remained on hand, whlle the increased
rates of money more than countcrbalanced any tomporary
advantage gained hy heavy treasuro shipments to realizo
the premium paid on gold at the East,
Although the new crops arc commencing to make their
appenrance we learn of uo concerted attempt to market
them, ner docs there appear to be any great demand for
mioncy to move them to the seaboard. It is generally beHeved that the financial pinch experienced for soveral
weeks hns gone through its worst stages. Cases of individual tightness cannot be heid as iudicating tho actual condition of tha market; hut, liko all news of an
unpleasant character, they create more remark and produce a senso of uncasincss for which if a reason were
demanded uone ratisfactory could be given. It is very
certain that bnainess 1a being done on a sounder basis,
and although we learn of no very marked or notewortby
transactions, the character of that which is dono is more
satisfactory. Atoll eveuls we are, and have heen, in a
for better diti ally and com lay, than
the people at the East,

With regard to mining stocks, the volume of transactions has heen considerably lessened ; however, during
the week uuder review, tho sales partook somewhat more
of a legitimate character, and were it not for tho continued tightness of the money market operations Would

In the opening remarks of an extended review of the
White Pine mines for the week ending June 19th, tho

from actual observation that Treasure Hill now employs
1,463 miners, who extract 435 tons of good milling ore
daily, and that the supply of ore now lying upon the
various dumps awaiting milling facilities amounts to
4,171 tons. According to milling tests of fair samples
of this ore it yiclds under stamps from $100 to $600 per
ton. We have shipped this week $65,078 63, and, with
the ore on dumps and at the mills, we have about $1,500,000 left.”
