CAPITAL STOCK, $12,000,000. DIVIDED INTO 1,200,000 SHARES OF TEN DOLLARS EACH, FULL PAID STOCK. OFFICERS OF THE COMPANY. President...... SAMUEL MERRITT, Vice-President.. Treasurer...0+ Secretary and General Agent.. Boarp oF TRUsTEES--Samuel Merritt, Michael Reese, Ahraham Seligman, John B. Felton, Joseph Aron, Wm, H, Sharp, Henry Barroithet, THE SUTRO TUNNEL COMPANY, Rights and Privileges. The SUTRO TUNNEL COMPANY," under a special Act of Congress of the United States, has the following Tights end privileges: lst—The Company owns a tract of mineral land sdja. cent to the Comstock Lode, in the State of Nevada, heing the very heart and center of the richest silver region inthe world, SEVEN MILES IN LENGTH BY FOUR TBOUSAND FEET IN WINTH, EMBRACING FIVE THOUCARD AND TWENTY ACRES, 2d—Also a Town Site at the mouth of the Tunnel, containing one thousand two hundred and eighty acrea, 3d--The exclusive ownership of ALL mines discovered by the Tunnel. 4th—A royalty forever of Two noLLARa om each and every ton of ore extracted from eny part of the Com. stock Lode, and 5th--The right of appropriation of all the water carried off through the Tunnel, Cnnstruction of the Tunnel, In order to develop and render valuable every portion of this grant, the Company has commenced the constructiou of the Tunnel, which has already progressed five hundred feet, and is now being pushed day and night, at the rate of fifty feet per week. . ‘he Tunnel is provided with a double-track railroad, and, with a ramified system of hranches, to be constructed in every direction, will form a great highway under this argentiferous mountain range, furuishing extraordinary facilities for developing mines, cheap transportation, ventilation and drainage. It will eventually penetrate iuto the very heart of Mount Davidson, the ceuter of this great silver region, under the summit of which it will pass at a perpeudicular depth of three thousand four hundred and seventy-three feet. Abandonment nf the Mines, The abandonment of the mines on the Comstock Lode, under the present expensive system of mining, is but a question of time; the completion of the Tunnel will tive them anew lease of life, and will be the inauguration of anew era in mining. Instead of fifty steam engines, now necessary to pump the water and hoist the ore, none at all willhe required. The water will run off through the Tunnel of its own accord; the ore will drop down by the laws of gravitation, end be trans ported over a short, straight, level railroad to tho water power of Carson river, at less expense than it now costs to hoist it; frcsh air will ascend to ell parts of the mines, end through tho conneeting ehafts, as through chimneys two thousand fect in height. In short, the simple laws of nature will be made to perform more effectually, at no cost at all, what is now eccomplished hy ee means at an annual expense of millions of collars Redneced Cost af Mining. The cost of mining and transportation will be #0 much reduced, and facilities for concentration at the mouth of the Tunnel created, as will make availeble many millions of tons of low-grade ore, whlch otherwise will forever remain buried in the bowels of the earth, It will permit the most extensive exploration on those portions of the Comstock Lode which have hith. erto been unproductive. Devctopment of New Mines, The development of new mines in this argentlferons helt is not a matter of speculation; itis one eo .well established by repeated examinetione of the Company's grant, and hy analogy with other mineral dietricts, that no doubt os to its immeuse value can be entertained, The great silver deposits of the world are confined to Isolated and limited localities, whero either one groat mother vein forms the nucleus of a system of parallel or cross veins and deposits, or where the latter occur hy themselves, es has amply been illuetrated by the explorations of centuries in the mincs of Schemnitz, in Hungary, those ot Clausthsl, in the Harz, Friedherg, in Saxony, Cornwell, in England, Charnacillo, in Chile, Potosi, in Bolivia, Guanajuata end Zacatecas in Mexico— the three latter having for over three hundred years poured out their treasures, and yielded two thousand eight hundred millions of dollars, being more than onehalf the silver ever produced in tho world. Sources of Kevenne, The whole country, from the mouth of the Tunnel, heing of an argentiterous cl ter, valuahle develop: ments may be made at any time duriug ite progreas, One single mine opened up may furnish the means for completion of the whole Tunnel. The sele of town lots end mill sites on the Company's land will also yield considerable income; also that derived from the sale of water furnished hy the Tunnel. A very importent revenue will ho ohtuined from the contributicns hy tho mines on the Comstock Lode, made comptllsory hy the Act of Congress already referred to, which makes the titles to these miues subject to the condition (expressed in all patents) that they shall pay to the Tunnel Compeny two dollars per ton, forever, on every ton of ore ext acted from eny portion of the mines. At the present rate of productiom of one thousand tons per duy, this will yield to the Tunnel Come pany a daily income of twotbousand dollars, exclusive of tbe charges for transportation of men, ore, rock, tim: bers, etc., estimated to amount to a similar sum, Some idea of the income of the Tunnel Company from this source may he formed whon it is considered that the increased fecilities furnished by the Tunnel after ita completion may triple the number of tons produced hy these minee, s . Benefits to the Conntry. The influence which the successful completion of hie great work will exercise upon all our mining intereste can hardly he estimated. By securing the future productiveness of the most important mines in the world for a hundred ycars to come, hy establishing their yalno at agreater depth than has yet heen reeched on any mine in the world, and hy introducing a rational, permanent and economical system of mining, an unequalled impetus to, end confidence in, all mining operations will he given, which must result in immenso henebts to the whole nation, and especially to everyhody interested in the welfare of the Pacific Coest, An opportunity is now offered to all to become Interested inthis important and magnificent undertaking, under the following resolution: Resolved hy the Board of Trusteee, That twenty thousand sbares of the full paid stock he sold at the office of the Company,” where further particnlars and printed circulars may he obtained.
