Mining Summary.
THe following information is gleaned mostly from .
ournals published in the interior, in close proximity
o the mines mentioned.
California.
ALPIRE COUNTY.
M. C. Tuxnez,—Miner, Dec. 18th: Hard
rock has set the hovs hack for some days.
Several bodies have been cut and ore can
be taken out at any time after a process is
decided upon. Lumber for the chute to
convey ore to the road, is heing delivered.
StEetereLotT.—This fnrnace has been inspected with reference to its use on our
ores, and it is thought this plan or something similar, will he just the thing for
Alpine.
PENNSYLVANIA.—The result of the working of some ore from this mine, as per certificate of W. T. Rickard, is as follows:
Value per ton, silver, $97.40; gold, $5.26;
total, $102.56.
ANIADOR COUNTY.
Kennepy.—Dispaich, Dee. 25th: It is
rumored that this mine has been sold for
$80,000. We know that some very rich
rock has been taken out lately.
New Worss.—Burr and Breedlove are
erecting new chlorination works, at Sutter
Creek. These gentlemen have an oven alyeady in operation, but its capacity is not
sufficient to meet the demand on them for
working sulphurets.
Conry.—We learn from good anthority
that work will be resumed on this mine
between this and the first of March.
Puacer Mrxinc.—Very little of this has
been done in this section for ten years,
and it is the opinion of good miners that
good diggings can yet be found, The
price of water is not so high as formerly.
CALAVERAS COUNTY.
Treus.—Chronicle, 25th: The claim of
Brackett & Co. is again heing worked. A
number of hands are drifting, and the mill
is kept constantly running..Charles
Harkins has sold out to Connelly & Brennan. During the past six months this
mine has paid a profit of uearly $15,000.
Guzneor Disrrict.—Barney & Co. have
ent the vein with their drain tunnel, and
are, taking out very rich rock. Timhy &
Howarth have had a crushing of 40 tons of
rock that yielded $30 per ton. Peter Gass
has struck a veiu—parallel with Barney &
Co’s claim—the rock of which is said to be
held together with gold. This is the ninth
rich claim Gass has found in the past year.
Ramroap.— Quartz claims turuing out
well and work vigorously pushed. The
mill on the Petticoat is progressiug finely
—hboiler in place, engine set up and the
building nearly completed. It is rumored
that Mr, Gashwiler will commence operations on the claim he bought from the
Lewis Brothers abont New Year. Honston
& Poe had 40 tons of rocks, recently, which
netted $800.
Monrror Camp.—Cor. of same: A new
company have taken hold of the old Merrimac claim, erected an engiue, and are
about ready to recommence sinking. Bigelow, Wright & Co., in the Monitor claim,
have struck richer gravel than has ever
been taken from the mine before. They
are sinking a new shaft, The adjoining
claim on the uorth has been located by
Evans & Co., and operations will be
shortly commenced. The Jackson Co. are
taking out rich gravel, as usual. The
Harkins mine continues to pay as well as
ever. Last Saturday they had another
large clean up—over three hundred ounces
of gold—the result of the labor of eight
men five weels. I was shown a piece of
rock from the Davis claim, Central Hill,
that was about half gold. With a shaft 25
feet in depth this claim shows a load three
feet wide. Mr. Davis has perfectedarrangements to work the mine next summer. Monitor will yet be the liveliest
camp in Calaveras.
LOS ANGELES COUNTY.
New Puacers.—News, 18th: We understand that rich placer mines have been
discovered near the head waters of the San
Gabriel, in the mountain gorges betweeu
the river and Little creek. Parties have
left this city to investigate the trnth of the
reports,
NEVADA COUNTY.

** Gop’s Country.” —Caddy & Dower are
erecting an eight-stamp mill, two and a
half miles from the Jim or Mutnal mine,
They have a four-foot ledge. Their mill
yill be running in two months, The Jim
run their 5-stamp mill night and day,
ernshing 15 tons in 24 hours, They have
ions to last the winter. As the snow is
deep in this region, knowu as ‘‘God’s
Country,” it is necessary to have supplies
hanled during the summer, Black &
Young's mill is employed night and day
on good pay rock, and its owners intend to
keep it running all winter.
Tas Nortsa Bioomrmip Co’s Dai—
General Alexauder has made an elaborate
report upon this structure, showing it to
he sufficiently strong for the present pressure, and pointing out what will be necessary when it is carried 15 feet higher as is
intended. The present height is 48 feet.
Srarrep Up.—Grass Valley Union, 28th:
The machinery for the West Eureka mine
was completed Saturday, and put in motion. Everything worked well and the
mine was soon freed of water.

the MeClellau Co’s ledge. They were full
of sulphurets and showed, also, free gold

PLACER COUNTY.
Durer Fuar.—Cor. of the Auburn Stars
and Stripes, Dee. 23d: ‘* Owing to the
searcity of water, very little mining is being done, although most of the claims are
ready, The owners of many claims have
worked off the surface, and but few have
ground that can he worked without running tunnels and opening up on a lower
level; some of them hold back, waiting for
capital to come in and buy them out. A
company of San Francisco capitalists recently purchased the claims of the Ohio &
Cologne Co.; they have been drifting and
crushing the dirt with astonishing results;
they intend purchasing more ground. We
had an excitemeut a few days since in consequence of the discovery of a quartz lode
on the head of Squire’s Canou; in the croppings it was very rich, but the vein was
rather small and not easily traced; only
two locations have been made on it; they
have sunk two shafts on it with encouraging results.
PLUNIAS COUNTY.
Stoprep.—Quiney National, 18th: The
Enreka Mills, at Jamison, have stopped

Prosrrets or Avustin.—eveille, Dec.
93d: The ore in Lander Hill is rich.
Last year the silver produced by the
‘Manhattan mill amounted to about
$1,200,000. Yesterday we heard of three
miners who received $10,000 as their share
of the profits of ore obtained from a mine
in that hill by about one month’s work.
But these are not the cases upon which we
hase the future prosperity of Austin. Her
resources are broader.

date there were produced at the Manhattan
mill 17,733 ounces of bullion.
YangEr Buaps.—We hear several mines
highly spoken of. Among them are the
Tuolumne, the Chase, the Maggie, and
the Yankee Blade mine of the American
Co.
WHITE PINE.
Weerxzy Muinine Review.—Empire, 25th:
Asarulc, mining matters have flourished
for the past week. The men who were
knocked off have found employment or
gone to work ou their own account, and
there are not more idle men than formerly.
The true solution of the question of the
suspension of work by two or three of the
leading mines on Treasure Hill will he
found in the oversupply of ore on the
dumps of the various mills.
The News says: ‘‘ The new developments
in the Earl, and the extraordinary showing
of bullion value in the South Aurora, are
enconraging. We hear of a break-off on
one link of the chain of circumstances connected with the late stoppage. The corporations have come toadead lock on a
consolidation project, and the mining interest ia likely to be gainer by it.
