PURINGTON & MAYOUX’S PATENT, NOV. 30, 1869. This is the best Chair Spring vet invented, and will undoubtedly supersede all other devices of the kind, as it is SIMPLER, CHEAPER, AND MORE DURABLE. As a simple article of comfort and ease, it has no superior, and only needs to be tried to commend itself to universal and lasting favor. The Springs seen attached to tho front legs of the chair in the engraving enables the person sitting in the seat, with very little effort, to give themselves A Gentile and Easy Rocking Motion. And also to rest themselves hy change of position, by a very slight movement. It renders a common chair, at a trifling expense, equal or superior, in many respects, to a rocking ehair. a The advantage of this Spring over all others consists in the manner of attaching it to the chair by tho simple turning of a nut, which nut is also securely, easily and quickly adjusted to the Spring in a manner impossible for it to beeomo inadvertently detached. The engravings show the parts both detached and as adjusted to the chair. . Tho nut is made of metal, and is provided with a serew thread, so that it cun be serewed to the leg of an ordinary chair; and instead of weakening and splitting the leg, as in the case where a hole is bored and a serew inserted to hold and attach tho nut, this method strengthens it ‘The nut can also be very quickly and easily put on or removed. . The oase and convenience in applying the spring to the nutis readily seen. The top of the nnt is provided with a collar or shoulder, and also an incline groove around the outer surface, so that tho smaller end of the pan can be screwed to the nut; and its top eoil being bronght firmly against the shoulder, all oscillation from side to side is prevented. When tho nuts are taken off, the chair is nninjured in its original form,
