August 12, 1871.] SCRENTIFIC PRESS. 85 The Great Western minc,; on Treasure Hill was sold this morning. Geo. B. EIlery made the sale to an English company. Mr. Bastian hrought in, on Monduy, to McCullough & Co.'s assay office, 130 ounces of fine hnllion, the product of Constitntion and Orofino Irdgos in Sacramento District. The rock was worked at the Piermont company’s mill, giving a pnlp assay of $266 per ton. Arizona. Bransnaw.—Prescott Miner, July 22d: From parties just arrived we learn that several companies at work on tho Tiger and other prominent lodes were taking ont yery rich ore. Riggs & Co., ata depth of over 70 ft., had cut across a vein of quartz 24 ft. in thickness, 18 ft. of which, we are assurod, was good paying oro. Tho Discovery Co. were sacking ore worth $800 or $1,000 to the ton; may be moro, as it was literally covered with pure silvor. Kecently thore was taken from the Tiger a pioco weighing 140 pounds, and whoso sides were covered with native silver, was hanled out of the shaft, hoxed, and will, eventnally, reach Sau Francisco. A very rich piece of gold quartz from Humhng ereeck has ercated some excitoment hero, and parties havo started out for extension claims. Tho Del Pasco mill was nearly completod and ready for crnshing. May commenco Saturday. Mr. Opdyke showed us, yesterday morning, a huge slab of silver-bearing quartz from the Davis lode, Black Cation. Monave Couyry.—A notable ledge has been discovered near Beale springs, Wallapai District, Mohave county. Jerry Ridgeway, the discoverer,, seut this ore to Messrs. Niles and Mix, who had four pounds of it worked, which yielded three ounces of silver and ‘gold, worth four dollars per ounco. Miners from Novada were arriving in Wallapai District. Work steadily progressing. Hassayamea Disrricr.—Samo of 29th: The Davis lode is yielding a deal of rich silver oro. J. Voshay has heen testing the Emma mine, which runs parallel with Groom creek, He has found genuine hoin silver. Six pounds of ore treated hy milling procoss, yielded $4.50, over half in gold. Tho mine is about six miles south from Prescott. Waker District—R. Wood, a placer miner was recently hore. He had several 0z3. of course gold. One piece weighed $3. Water, he said, was very scarco, there having fallen but two showers, this summer, up to the time he left. His pay-streak was ahout ten feet wide; his gravel paid ahout ten ceuts'to the pan, and had he plenty of water for rocking, heconld make two ounces per day. Mr. Pointer, from same district, informs us that Mr. Shelton was taking ore from his Vernon lode that is rice enough to pay $1,000 to the ton? Other miners were extracting ore and doing a little placer mining. Weaver Duisrrietr.—John Davis and others lately got from the Columbia lode, in an arastra, $140 to the ton. They are down upon the ledge some 30 feet, where it is about two feet thick. They mean to continue work, Mr. Groves showed a piece of the ore of a milky color, with several good-sized particles of gold. Itis stated that ahout fifty tons of “Great Sexton” oro are to he worked at the Vulture mill to test the miue. Wicxenrvre Disrrict.—The Vulture lode, we loarn, is hetter aud healthier than at any previous time. The deepest shaft is now down over 300 ft., and, reports says, water has heen struck. The mill is reducing about seventy tons every 24 hours. Tue “‘ Kexny" lode is the newest, richest mining discovery. It assays woll—$150 to the ton, in silver—is three feet wido, and ‘“‘hnilt in proportion.” It is less than a mile west from Prescott. Idaho. The Lewiston Journal, of July 15th, congratulates its community on the ground that the extension of agricultural pursuits is likely to improve the comfort and cheapen the cost of mining by lowering the rates of living. It reports mining interests at Elk City as lively, or more than in former years. There are preparations heing made to develope the quartz leads in that district. Silver City Avalanche, July 25th: Bullion shipped hy W. F. & Co. for the week ending yesterday, 15 hars—$22,378.07. Sours Cuarior.—Incorporated in 8. F. The Co. includes the Peck & Porter mino and War Eagle mill in its property. It is one of the best and most suhstantial, and as soon as properly developed, handsome dividends will he the order of the day. 1 ‘‘Borsk Basty Beprack Friraixa Co.” has been incoporated. Trustees B. Puenry oF MINING “Grouxn. —Statesman, July 25: Thoro is lots of mining ground in Idaho at present unconsidered, which is destined yet to yield heaps of gold. The Utah Smelting aud Milling Co., whose works are situated at Eureka, Tintic, hy virtue of success, have now on hand ahout $15,000 worth of bullion, the partial yesult of one month’s run of tho Homansvill furnace. The Denver (Col.) Tribune says Col. The intrinsic merits of a mine will at times assert themselves, and this causes speculators to work with outsiders, carrying snch stocks far heyond their true value; and it is at this juncture that insiders gain the advautage. To operate successfully in the stock arena one must know the inside views; true, occasionally legitimate purchases, without the knowledge of combinations or the merits of the investmeut, result in large gains, hut snch instances are rare. Mining interests generally have a very hopeful look, and as our miues are coming nnder better and still more economical management, which, we are glad to learn from ali quarters, is the case, the prodnetiou of our precious metals will be vastly increased. Recently sales of large gold-mining properties in our State have heen effected in London, and still others are upon the market; and we do hope that no disappointments will follow these investments, for they seem to he the forerunuers of great prosperity to our State and the entire Pacific slope.
