164 SCIENTIFIC PRESS: {March 16, 1872. Nnine Summary. _ THE following is mostly condensed from journals published in the interior,in proximity to the mines mentioned. California. ALPINE COUNTY. GuosE.—Monitor Miner, March 2: During Feh. a little over 60 ft. of main tunnel was made hy 3men. An assay of the gray copper ore from the bottom of the shaft gave 33 8-10 per cent. copper and $1.25 silver per ton. Warrm’s furnace at the Tarshish mill is nearly ready for work. The mill will he ready to get np steam next week. AMADOR COUNTY. * Srrommn.—Amador Ledger, March 9: A piece of quartz rock from the shaft of the State of Maine mine, left at our officeafew dsys ago, literally sparkles with fine gold, and is well charged with sulphurets. Gop Brick.—We have heen shown a gold hrick weighing 389 ozs., the proceeds of 16 days run on rock from Kennedy mine in a 20-stamp mill. As work progresses the rock in the mine hecomes richer in free gold and snlphurets. That heing taken out will average $25 per ton hy ordinary mill process. Vouoano. — Cor. Amador Dispatch, March 9: The Markley mine pays from $80 to $100 per ton. Another lead has heen fonnd 2 miles from it, known as the Rodgers Lead, that hids fair to he equally as good. At present it is not heing worked on account of the weather. ‘The placer mines are paying well. The Robinson claim, near Foster’s, is doing “thully” It pays from $5 to $8 to the hand per day. Still higher up, on the same range, have been found diggings that are paying well—among them are some near Tarr’s mill. BUTTE COUNTY. Four-1n-Hanp-—Chico Review, March 8: This is the name of the newly-discovered claim and district located 25 miles from Chico. CALAVERAS COUNTY. Canaveras Hypravuro M. Co.-—Calaveras Chronicle, March 9: The Co. will soon be in readiness to commence operations in their mine near Worth’s Hill, 1.900 ft. of iron pipe are to he used in conducting water for hydraulic purposes, 1,400 ft. of which are completed. Hupson.—Three shiftsof men are employed in sinking the main shaft, which is 60 ft. deep showing a 9 ft. ledge. A whim, whim-house, hlacksmith shop and other hnildings have recently heen erected, and every preparation made for workiog the mine in good shape. Gwin.—The mill on the lower Gwin mine—36 stamps—is kept constantly running, the ore crushed, however, not being fist-class. The shaft in the npper mine is cleaned out down to the water, hut it will he some time yet hefore rock can be taken out. The sinking of a new shaft between the two mines has been commenced. San AnprReas.—Cor. same: Tha Sciffard ledge is 8 ft. in width, but ahout 2 tt. on the hanging wall is allowed toremain. They are sinking a shaft on the ledge. The Garnet mine is heing operated and continues to “give out” in the good old way. EL DORADO COUNTY. CuaREEVILLE.—Cor. Placerville<epublican, March 1: There is considerable prospecting going on, and we have 2 hydraulio Co’s. driving away near Screech Owl Ravine. INYO COUNTY. CommenceD Oprrrations.—Inyo Independent, March 2: Jimmy Sharpe and Clastine have gone to work on the Blue Bell ledge, in the Inyo range, opposite this place, to take out ore for shipment. LOS ANGELES COUNTY. Surement.—Los Angeles News, March 2; The Orizaba will take to-day the largest shipment of hullion that has ever heen made from this place to S. F. It consists of over 3,000 hars, Minino.—The Pah Ute Co. in Clark dis. own 75 ledges from some of which very rich rock is heing taken, the ore yielding aa high aa $800 a ton. San GaprieL River.—Mining on the San Gabriel river is progressing favorably. The Roberts-Matfield Co. have completed their first cleaning up, with a satisfactory resnlt. The San Gabriel Co. have let out a contract for the completion of their ditch, for $10,000. One mile of the ditch has been constructed, and there remains 3 yet to be done. MARIPOSA COUNTY. Hornrtos.—Mariposa Gazetie, March 1: Rumor has it that Spanish Tom & Co. have taken out $20,000 during the past woek. One pocket after another is found, varying from $3,000 to $8,000. I have heard of several strikes heing made in this vicinity lately. Men and boys can he seen in every direction with pick and pan searching for the hidden treasure. Jack Moseman took out $400 from a pocket in his claim, one day last week, and has more of the precious metal in sight. NAPA COUNTY. QuicKsILvER.—Vallejo Chronicle, March 2: The Whitton Co., on the divide hetween Santa Rosa and Napa valley, have run a tunnel into the mountain ahout 250 ft., with a depth from the surface of 150 or 200 ft , and have a hody of ore diffused throngh the rock which will assay from 25 to 90 per cent. The Oakville Co. is lower down on the mountain, and has heen working 40 or50 men. Geo. Cornwell & Co. have run a prospecting tunnel with splendid indications, and propose to run a main tunnel 300 ft. helow the summit. NEVADA COUNTY. Suioo Quartz Lepen.—Nevada Transcript, March 9: Lord & Co. have heen at work a shert time taking out eurface rock, and they have a splendid prospect. BucHanan Muye.—The mine, ahove this city, is turning out some splendid rock. There is a streak of yellowish quartz running through the ledge, which shows free gold in large quantities. Rep Jacret.—The Red Jacket Co., near the Anthony House, have struck some splendid looking gravel. The Co. has heen engaged in running a tunnel for ahout 5 years and during the entire progress the gravel has improved. An English Co. have been examining it and it is thought they will purchase the ground. Repan Minz.—Stiles & Co. have commenced the erection of a quartz mill on Little Greenhorn creek, for crushing rock from the Redan mine, Therock prospects well, and the ledge is large and well defined. Norta Svar. — Grass Valley Union, March 8: The mine has shipped for the 4 weeks, ending yesterday, gold to the value of $19,000. The shipment yesterday was 900 ozs. PLACER COUNTY. Durex Fuat.—Cor. Auhurn Herald, Msrch 9: The Dutch Flat Blue Gravei M. Co. is on the north side of this town. Its claims consist of 20 acres. Some of the surface has been washed away, and the present Co. is trying to wash the hlue gravel to the hedrock. The ground is pretty hard. r The Self Rising Co., on Grass Hill, had a good clean up. The Plug-Ugly Co. cleaned up ahout $500, the result of Gdays’ work. This Co. is washing night and day. The Backer Co. had a dividend of $1,000. The ground is rich, but very hard. PLUMAS COUNTY. Qutnox National, March 2: The Black Hawk Co. recently cleaned up some $1.200, the result of 2 months’ run of top dirt. La Porte.—Cor. same: The contractors inthe Bordwell tunnel are going ahead finely, making from 6 to 8 ft. per day. Meapow Vautey,—Cor. Oroville Record, March 9: The claim of Rohert Grace, on Spanish Creek, at Green Flat, is being worked advantageously, with a full set of men. Nelson & Hanson are progressing finely, on adjoining ground, At Red Hill, Folsom & Messer are preparing for aspring gang. Morris Smith, on Badger Hill, is working with good success. Andrews & Kennedy have almost completed their exsive tunnel at Devil’s Elhow. SAN DIECO COUNTY. Butuion.—San Diego Union, Feh. 29: The shipment of bullion to 8. F. yesterday amounted to $3,750—all from the San Diego mines. San Dizoo Mines.—Affsirs are in a very encouraging condition. All the mills are busy at work and the development of the different mines is going on vigorously. The Redman Mill has just cleaned up after running upon a lot of ore from the Golden Chariot lead which yielded handsomely. It is now engaged upon rock from the Ready Relief. The mills of De Frees & Co., and Gunn, Reynolds & Co., are both crushing rock from the Owens lead. The Stonewall Jackson and Antelope Mills are both running upon ore from their own leads. The new mill of Wilson & Co. started up a few days since and is husy crushing ore from the Helvetia. SIERRA COUNTY. Kanaka.—Mountain Messenger, March 2: Otto Rey & Co. are working the Kanaka, They are putting up chlorination works, TRINITY COUNTY. Lewiston.—Cor. Trinity Journal, March 2: Bolt’s Hill is fast going away. Olney Phillip’s claim is fast losing its breadth of ground. There are several men employed Init. Mat Trask and Squire Ross have washed oif the side of one large mountain, and in doing so struck a channel which prospects finely. All the rest of the miners are doing well. Nevada.
ELKO COUNTY. Corr.—Elko Independent, March 9: The hullion shipment for Feh. was $22,041. A prosperons seasou is anticipated. EUREKA DISTRICT. ANTELOPE Dist.—Enureka Sentinel, March 5: The mines are looking well and -the prospects are excellent for an important camp atanearly day. Donald MeMurchy, in company with the two McIntyre boys, have a fine mine with 50 or 60 tons of ore onthe dump, which will prohably mill $60 per ton. Prenrx Co.—This Co. have shut down their furnaces for the purpose of making many needed improvements. The Redmond Co. have also shnt down for repairs. SuHrpreD.—Supt. Mowry, of the Lemon Mill, informs us that one of the :furnaces of the White pattern has heen shipped from 8. F., and will arrive here within 2 weeks from now. ELY DISTRICT. Bumuion.—Ely Record, March 3: W. F. & Co. shipped since the 29th ult., bullion valued at $84,425.05. Rep Crouv.—The shaft is down 75 ft. At about 60 ft. down a small strata of very rich yellow cloride ore was struck, which has continued down . to the present depth, showing that the real ledge has been struck, The rich streak of pay ore is about 1 ft. wide. Vouuture.—The shaft is 12 ft. deep. The ledge is nearly perpendicular with a slight pitoh to the north, and the walls of solid quartzite. The ore in the bottom of the shaft is fully 5 ft. wide. Procus.—At the 400-ft. level good ore has been struck. Warp BercHer.—The incline is down 185 ft. and the ledge is beginning to show signs of improvement. Bowery Minu.—Gen. Page is rushing work on the mill with a full force of men, and hy the 10th of March it will be started on ore from the Bowery mine. The mine is looking well, a fine hody of ore has heen struck in the esst drift, and the ledge shows well in the same shaft. At the depth of 100 ft. the shaft cnt arich body of ore. PrEavInr.—Mr. Cavallier has started men to work sinking the shaft deeper, and also to grade off a placo for a shaft house. The ore on the dump is heautiful and rich, the ledge shows in the shaft from the surface down, the walls are perfect. Paos anp Panaca.—There isa full force engaged in timbering the works, The machinery is all ready to put up, and the hoisting works will be ready as soon as the timhering is completed. Hasn & Hunt.—The mine is looking very well, and the character and extent of the ore is improving. Raymond anv Ey is as good as ever, and the ore continues everwhere. The ledge is extensive, solid, and rich in free milling ore, Inooman.—The hoisting works are nearly completed, and the whistle will blow at noon to-day. Ledge looking well. Havana.—At 40 ft. the ledge is growing softer, and wider. All the indications are good. . Aups continnes to improve. The east and west drifts are still in good ore, and everything looks well. Merapow Vaniry.—A fine hody of ore has heen struck in No. 3. From the 17th to the 19th ult., their shipments aggregated $55,343. Carer Dist.—This Dist. is some 20 miles south of Pioche. Samples of very fine ore have heen shown to us from some of the mines just opened there. Parties interested speak very highly of the prospects of the Dist. HUMBOLDT. Buriion.— Unionville Silver State, March 9: Amountshipped from the Arizona mine, since our last issue, was $5,986. Sacramento Dist.—Encouraging reports reach ns. The Silver Queen ledge promises to be a valuable mine. At a depth of 120 ft., ore of the richest quality is developed. The ledgeis 14inches wide. PiIoNEER anD Insxie Co.—The Co. contemplate the erection of a chlorination furnace of the Stetefeldt pattern, near the Pioneer mill this spring. Urica Mri, at the outlet of Humholdt Lake, will start up ahortly on ore from the Almaden mine, Desert Dist. GauEena.—Cor. same: The Battle Mt. mine is within 4 mile of Galena. A tnnnel has heen run ahout 200 ft. and the ledge tapped 100 ft. helow the surface. There is a large body of mineral in sight. The Trenton mine, 7 miles west of here, has heen honded to an English Co. for $100,000:REESE RIVER. Buuuron.—Reese River Reveille, March 7: W.F. & Co. shipped from this city during Feh., 57 hars, 4,408 ibs, valued at $39,288.40. All from the Stetefeldt mill of Belmont, Ellsworth mill of Mammoth, and the Netcom mill of this dist. Rich.—A specimen from the ‘Lida Belle” ledge at Lida valley, hrought in assayed $12,592.24, "and one from the Brown Henry assayed $12,661.37. WASHOE. CHotuaR-Porosr.—Virginia Enterprise, March 7: The Co. are again taking out ore. They are extracting 100 tons per dsy from the Piute and Blue Wing stations. A large amount of prospecting is heing done inthe mine, chiefly at the first and second stations of the new shaft and in the South Belvidere and Piute sections. SILveR Bars.—We yesterday ohserved on the counter of the Bank of Cal. silver hars to the value of $37,000 from the Crown Point, Belcher and Savage mines. Arizona.—The Arizona Co., American Flat, have opened out their old tnnnel and are working upward from it to prospect their ground. Surro Tounnreu.—The tunnel was yesterday in 2,764 ft.; the ground is hard and no water is coming in at the face. Savaor.—The ore hody recently developed at the lowest level, althongh not of a high grade, is reported to he over 30 ft. wide. Tue Sierra Nevada mine is looking well, hut as yet, outsiders are not allowed to examine the new development. AvusuRN Miuus.—Reno Journal, March 9: The Auburn mills are running to their full capacity on rock from the Co’s. mine at Rye Patch. Their ore yields well and the mine looks hetter than ever hefore. WHITE PINE. Bunuron.—White Pine News, March 9: W.F. & Co. shipped to-day, to London, for Eherhardt & Aurora M. Co. 2 bars, 166 ibs., valued at $3,113.54. St. Grorce—Situated 400 ft. south of the main Eherhardt shaft, is taking out from 20 to 25 tons of average-grade ore per day, and working 12 men. Youno Cutrr.—An increased force has been placed in the southwest chamher. Taking out 5 tons per day of mediumgrade ore. Miue looking well, and masses of ore in sight. Frozen Zonz.—A new location shows a mass of high-grade ore a number of tons of which will be tested this week. Stiver Puats.—Looking well and widening. Working 24 men. Seventy tons of ore worked from this mine yielded $75 to the ton. r Tue ‘‘Truckee,” “Caspian,” and ‘‘Mammoth” are working with uniform results. An average of 5 tons per day are extracted from each of these locations. Working 4 men each. Gen. Lez.—Drift from the main ore chamher is in 20 ft. on the spar seam, aud opened in a lsrge body of ore, varying in assay value from $50 to $500 per ton. Drift will be followed to prove the extent of this extensive ore hed recently found. East SHEBOXOAN.—Same number of men employed, principally prospecting. Judications are favorable of meeting the ledge of ore running at right angles from the original tunnel. Norts Avrora.—The body of ore has improved since last week. San Juan DEL Rio.—The mine is im. proving as depth is gained. Sinver Wave.—Perkins shaft down 105 feet. Arizona. Mines anp Muinrvo.—Prescott Union, Feb. 24: They have ‘‘ struck it” richer than ever in the Tiger. Itis now open to adepth of 180 ft, by shafts, besides hy cuts and tunuels. The ore will be shipped to S. F. and perhaps to Europe, for treatment. Beantiful coils and threads of native © silver, heavy black snlphnrets and ruhy ore constitute the product of the mine. The drift is in one lode 160 ft.; shaft down about 122 ft. The Lorenna, ‘Benton, and other lodes near the Tiger are not far behind it in richness. In Pine Grove Dist., the Del Pasco is yielding plenty of rich free gold rock. T W. Brooks started over a day or two ago, with 5 or 6 men, to work at mine and mill. on
