CRAIG & BREVOORT’S
Condenser
PUMPS,
Patent for Steam
&e.
NO. 1.
The annexed engravings represent a Condenser {ntended to be attached to the ordinary steam pump,
therohy bringing it within the ciasa of iow pressure, or
more properiy speaking, of eondenaing engines; the
steam, when it has done its work in the cyiinder, in.
stead of being exh d into the at here, is condueted to the condenser, on ita entry into which, it
meets the water drawn by the pump, and is immedi.
ately condensed.
The Cnt No. 1 representa a verticai section of the
Condenser, and No. 2 an efevation,
The flange D ia hoited to the suction ortflee of the
pump, and the flange 8 to the pipe leading to the well,
or whatever source of suppiy the pump may have; W is
a water Jacket surrounding the main ehambcr of the
condenser, B, aud with which the suction pipe, 8, comTaunicates, permitting a free circulation of water within
the Jacket and into the hoilow eover or top throngh tho
series of openings, one of which is shown at A, and
from thence into the body of Condenser, B, through
pipe P, earried by float F; the pipe P aiao acts autom.
aticnliy as a vaive te eniarge or oontract the apsco
through which the water entera it, hy which means the
poasihllity of the condenser being at any time flooded ia
avoided. The pips P, it wiii he ohserved, aiso acts as
guids to float F.
The vaive, O, (shown in Cut No. 1), which is ralaed or
iowered by meana of serewed stem—ahown coming
throngh cihow in Cut No. 2—ia for the purpose of increasing or decreasing the flow of water according to
the espacity of the pump to which it is attachod.
The exhauat pipe from steam eyiinder ia serewed into
eover at E; the exhaust steam is thus thrown direetiy
Into contaet with the wster entsring the condenser on
ita way to water eylinder of pump through D. A
vacuum heing of course immediately formed, aeta on
the exhaust side of the steam piston, aiding it in its
work. If atany time itis desirahle to run the pump
withont the d itis only y toturn the
three-way cock, which is piaced in the exhrust pipe,
into aueh a position as to eause the steam cylinder to
exhaust into the stmoaphere; when this ia done the
pump is perfectiy free from the condenser, and acta as
if it were not attached, This condenser is specially
useful for pumps running in mines, or any other position where trouble ia experienced in getting rid of the
sxhaust steam. Addresa H.L. BREVOORT,
