It descends at an angle oi £0 degrees nad is all the way in ore of exceeding richness— ore average assays of which are from $150 to §200. On the 9th level of tho old mine, where tlie ore hody has heen cut throngh, the pay ground is found to he 30 ft. in width and very rich. Ksickernocker Mixe.—Work is progressing favorably on the new Knickerhocker shaft. It is hoing snbstantinlly timbered, and is divided into 3 oompartments. ledge whion tho shaft shall havo nttained n depth of 500 ft. Scrro Tuxxeu.—The Sntro tnnnel_ is in a distance 2,657 ft. ‘The gronnd in the face of the tnnnel is very hard. Shaft No. 1 is down 3t ft. the ground works well. Shaft No. 2 is down 70 ft. tho ground is favorable nnd somo water is coming in. Shaft No.3 is down 45 ft. in vory hard ground, as in the caso in shaft No. 4. which is now down -Lt ft. A LARGE amonnt of prospocting is nt present being done in the Yellow Jacket wine. Littlo oro is boing raised. Bencuen anp Crown Potxt Britiox.— We yesterday saw upon the counter of tho Bank of Cal. silver hricks from tho Belcher mino valucd nt $50,188.20; also, Crown Point hricks to the valne of $28,341.79, making a total of $73,529.99, Overman Mixg.—Tho new shaft of the Overman M. Co. is down 446 ft. Juu14s Mixe.—Work is progressing favorably. Their main shaft is down 500 ft. and tho rock throngh which they are sinking is favorahlo inappearaneo. When their shaft shall have attained tho depth of 1,100 ft. they will drift for their lead. They expect to he ready to drift in ahont90 days. ‘They have a belt of vein matter uhont 200 ft. in width, in which to look for ore deposits. Daney Mine.—Gold Hill News, Jan. 18: Work progress well, nas usnal, in this mine with fino prospocts ahead. The drift for tho ledge at tho 500 ft. level in 100 ft. from the shaft, and the rock works well. At the 400 ft. level tho main drift cut the ledge at 270 ft. from the shaft, and the drift north from it is 95 ft., following the ledge in fine looking quartz assaying from $6 to $10 per ton. The prospeots for findinga good hody of pay ore are hetter than for a long time. Aupna Mine.—Reno State Journal, Jan. 20: The Alphn M. Co. at Rye Patch, have just struck an extensive chamber of very good milling orein their mine. It mills $70 per ton. a Arizona. Manes anp Minine.—Prescott Miner, Jan, 6th: The qnartz miners of Yuma and Mohave Co.’s are busily engaged, getting out ore. Yuma Co. will soon have another mill, that which My. Borger is hringing out, to work ore from the Constantia mine, near Khrenherg. The miners of Castle oe still taking out oreand shipping to 8. F. In Mohave Co., a 5-stamp mill is heing run. In Yavapai Co., the Vulture Co.’s 40stamp will, near Wickenhnrg, is still hnsy freeing gold from itsmatrix. At Bradshaw every lick struck upon the Tiger, and Lorena lodes exhihits ore of wonderfnl richness, In Pine Grove Dist., Jackson, & Co., have heen doing well, and have struok an abundance of water to run the mill 14 hours every day. J. Rush has about made up his mind to place his little mill on the Hassayampa, at Walnut Grove, and to work yore from the Josephine and other lodes, whieh we know are rich in free gold. Placer miners are still making something, on Lynx Creek and the Hassayampa. The Benjamin and its “eister” silver lodes, near Preseott, are growing better as fast as developed. Colorado. Surprep.—Georgetown Miner, Jan 11th: Baily & Nott have shipped since our last issue 15 tons of smelting ore on account of owners. Gen. F. J. Marshall, of the Marshall 8. M. Co., sent forward last week, 2 ear loads of smelting oreto Swanzea, valued at ahout $16,750 in coin. Campbell & Clark have shipped on aecount of owners, since our last issue 10 tons of rich smelting ore. Palmer & Nichols have shipped since our last issue, one silver bar, 900 fine, valued at $1,785.41, eoin. The Stewart S. Reducing Co. have shipped for the week, 4 silver bricks valued at $2,744 06 eoiu, and also one lead bar valued at $528.17 eoin. Monrezuma.—aA fair ore vein has been struck in the Napoleon, and a great deal A drift will be started for tho! of nativo copper is fonnd intermixed with the ore and vein material. Work on the Silver Wing lodo is steadily progressing. All the machinery for miliof Boston S. M. Association, has been transported from Breekenridgo to St. Johns, Tho mill of tho St. Lawrenco 8S. M. Co., amalgamating, and tho mill of the Boston S. M. Association smelting and amalgamating, will he completed at nn early day in the summer of 1872. Cunrran Crry Register, Jan. 3d: The . stoping ground of Harper's claim on the California, 300 ft. from tho surfaco still holds ont, and is prodneing n very fino grade of mill and smelting ore, 214 ft. in width. Mr. Harper has leased n claim to A. M. Jones, adjoining him on the west, and started a drift last Tnesday te open up this proporty. ‘The hreast of the drift diseloses n view of the colebrated California oro over 2 ft. in width. Nierons & Co. have loased and started tho mill on tho Cons. Grogory Co., at Black Hawk and are rnnniug it on Kent Co. oro, . Tae Holhrook property, adjoining the . Romine claim on the west, has been leased to Arden, Briggs & Co., who havo commeneod sinking, and are taking out a very fair grade of ore tlint is paying from 5 to 6 ozs, per cord, Tho shaft, 129 ft. in depth, is well timhered and in oxcellent condition for working. The lessecs pnrposo sinking 30 or 40 ft. deeper, whon they will commence drifting. This will give a stope something over 100 ft. in depth. Irems.—Central Herald, Jan. 10th: During Dec. tho Lenvitt lode yielded nearly $11,000. The crevice is from 4 to 6 ft. in width nnd the ore is very easily mined. Assay give from $100 to $400 per ton. The greatest depth reached in tho mine is 200 it. B.S. Bnell has jnst leased the ground on either side of that worked hy Mellor, There is avery large quantity of ore in sight, and the prospects are that the past unusual yield will continnefor a long time to come..The Kansas Co. are meoting with fair success on the property purchased of Hardesty on the Kansas lode. Last week’s rctnrn gave a retort worth $1,000. ..Capt. Philip’s claim on the Jones is paying well... Waterman’s Enreka 20stamp mil] is crushing Sndeherg ore for N. Young & Co. and for Kenwing & Qnail, their ore being from a lode just south of the Gardner, on Quartz hill... The Stevens l4-stamp mill at Black Hawk, is running on quartz from the Cincinnati, and from the Rob. Emmet. The formor is not paying as wellas formerly, hut the latter has tho appearance of being very valuahle, ..Cave & Mollor have again came intd rich pay on the Gregory Second, aud keop 5 stamps employed at the Mellor & Borum mill. The remaining 15 stamps are crushing Leavitt ore..Mead’s mill is crushing ore from the Gunnell, Bnrronghs and Roderick Dhu lodes. Idaho. Locan Recorp.—Silver City Avalanche, Jan. 18: The North Oro Fino Discovery continues to yield 25 to 30 tons per day— which is worked at the Owyhee Co.’s mill. A. P. Minear, is running it in eonnection with the Sonth Oro Fino, helonging to the Ida Elmore Co. The latter mine is yielding about 25 tons of ore daily. Mr. Minear is also working the North Oro Fino Co.’s ground through the same shaft, and has let a contract to rnn the 3d level drift in the Discovory elaim to the line, whieh will break through into the 2d level of the North Oro Fino, where there is already a large hody of ground opened. The 7th level drift of the.Ida Elmore is in about 40 ft. on the rich body of ore lately diseovered in that portion of the mine. tho Co.’s mill next week. The 6th level drift, in the same mine, is also heing driven north. Stoping is actively going on in the Sth level of the Golden Chariot, where the vein is over 2 ft. wide and the ore of excellent quality. Next week there will be 500 tons ready for the mill. The Minnesota mine bids fair to be one of*the best mines in camp. Drifts are heing run hoth north and sonth as fast as possible on a good vein of ore, which is easily worked in both tho mine and the mill. Ten stamps of the Elmore mill have been running on Minnesota ore for the last 2 weeks. It pays about $60 per ton ehiefly. The Mahogany is turuing out richer ore from its 4th level than was ever before seen inthatmine. Drifts are being driven hoth north and sonth' on tho tth level, also a winze from the 3d level down. There is quite an exeitement about the ore in the tth level of the Sonth Chariot, !which is very rieh. The ore from that
' drift will be worked this week. Some of the ore will be worked in. In the War Eagle mine a winze is heing sunk from tho 2d to the 3d level, ahout 100 ft. south of the shaft through a rich chimney of ore. Montana. Pin.uirsnurc.— Deer Lodgo Independent, Jan. 13: Brown & Co. aro working 11 men on tho Cordova ledge. They have an $-ft. ledgo of good ore. The St. Lonis & Montana M. Co. have leta contract to run a tunnel to tho Camanehe ledge. Brown & Go. have n hody of oro 10 ft. wide in the Tastern Camanche that is considered fair milling ore. Col. Lyon has started up his furnace on Speckled Trout ore. ‘The smelter works well. ‘The oro smelted so far pays $150 per ton. Estell & Holland have about 200 tons of first-class ore ready: to haul to tho mill. Mri. Creex.—The Vry lodo 11f miles ahovo the Pioneor Tannery, on Mill Creek, has been oponed to tho depth of 20 ft. and shows a well defined lode of gold-bearing qnartz, from 7 to 11 ft. thick. A large quautity of oro has been taken ont. ‘he ore tlrcady milled has paid $45 to tho ton. J. How is running the Ore Cacho mill, Summit Co., on rock from the mine of the same name. with favorablo results. JEPFERSON Mixes.—Uelena Gazette, Jan. 8: Bell & Co. are at work on their lode, tho ‘31 Dorado,” and have heen taking firstclass ore ont 01 hoth shaft and tunnel, and still there is 2 large hody of ore in sight. The ‘‘Minnesota” is being worked hy the owners, and, is considered to he tho hest lode in the dist. There are quitoannmher of miners in camp prospecting and running tunnels, trying to tap lodes they have discovered heretofore. Among the latter, are Dr. Brooks & G. Gregorie, whose tunnel, running to one of their late discoveries, hids fair for galena soon. J. Halford is running a tnnnel for the ‘ Self Supporter” with fair prospects of a good ‘‘streak”. Utah. Buuuron.—Salt Lake Tribune, Jan, 11: W.F. & Co. forward to-day to New York, 17 bars from the Raymond ¢& Ely works, worth $51,134.57, On the 16th, (same paper Jan. 18,) they forwarded to same place from Meadow Valley works, 7 bars, worth $9,087,81, and on tho 18th. they forwarded 4 hars, 316 lhs., valued at $5,172.89 from the Pioche S$. M. Co., also consigned to New York. N. P. Woops shipped from tho 12th to the 15th of Jan., about17 car-loads of hase hnilion to Omaha, one car-load going to Chicago. Cotumpra Dist,—Tho mines that are being worked are the Chimney Corner, Gold Eagle, Champion, and the Washington. Chimney Corner is down on an incline 85 ft., showing, bnnches of chloride ore which appears to he very rich in silver. Gold Eagle lias hecn Inying idle for some time owing to a conflict of titles. The original owners have, however, resumed work at their discovery shaft with the view of sinking and drifting throngh to tho Augusta which is ahout 150 ft. south of tho original discovery of the Golden Eagle. Champion Co. have tapped their ledge at a depth of 35 ft. in their tunnel, exposing a large hody of gray carhonate and apparently rich iu silver. The Washingtons areimproyving as work progresses. A new discovery was mado last week by Cex & Linton on Liheral Hill, about 150 ft. east of the Champion mine and probably the riehest diseovery inthe dist. Very little has been dono and a large hody of ore is in sight that assays high in silver. American Forr—The Snltana works are in a flourishing eondition. ploy 40 teams day and night and are making a very sneeessful rnn on their furnaces, having 100 tons of bullion already on hand, and eoal enough to smelt 200 more. The orein the mine (the Miller) seems to be holding out well. A contract has been let for the delivery of 1200 tons. East Canon.— Cor. same: On the north side of this eaiion, abont 634 miles from town, very rich deposits have heen found. Further np the mountaiu and we eome to the San Joaquin in 50 ft. Chloride Gem, rich ore. Chrysopolis, down .60 ft. with rich ore. Cricket, very rich. Lineolu tunnel, Sphynx, Ward Beecher, Silver Emporinm, etc., all evidently good mines. The Mariposa, Marvin and other prospeets, all ehloride ores. On Office Hill are several good prospects. On Base Ifill (so ealled) are the Sevier, Veloeipedes 1 and 2, Miner’s Delight, Silver Shield, Wild Delirium, Hidden Treasure, Fairview, McCullum, Antclope and others —all yielding good smelting ore and apparently heavy bodies. TheCo. em-'. 8 In Dry Caton we have the Fourth of July, Chicago, Soverign, Kearsarge, Monitor, Silver Eagle, Unelo John, Crown Point and others. The foothills abound in rich deposits: and contain several good leads. Below Ophir are a nnmher of leads and prospects located by the English Co, The El Capitan, a mine on Chloride Hill, io promising well. Ithas a vein of ore 16 inches in thicknoss, which assays on nu nverage $300 por ton. The Clark and Gardener is yielding considerahle ore, which is worth $180 per ton. Rioh discoveries have lately been made on Shoo Fly Hill, consisting of horn and nativo silver. Arastras are doing well. One stnrteda few days ago by Williams £ Co., works up to 70 per cent. of the assay value of tbe ore. Tho Ophir M.1& S. Co. will start their furnace again next Monday. Mr. Akin will have his fnrnace ready by the last of the month, when itis nnderstood the Pioneer Mill will ngain steam up. Comina.—Salt Lako Review, Jan. 18: The machinory for the constrnetion of a 20-stamp mill, for the Sparrowhawk M. Co. of Camp Lloyd, is expected to arrive within a week. 8. F. Stock Exchange Board, San Francisce, January 25, 1872. Mining stecks have been nnusually active during the past week. The San Francieco Stock Board will hereafter meet at 10% a.nt. instead of 1i a.o., a chauge cansed by pressnre ef husiness. The new eteck ef the Daney Mining company is ready fer delivery; on snrrendering certificates holders will receive three ehares of new iesne for one of old. From January Gth to Jannary 28rd the receipts from the Meadow Valley mine were $66,000. The December receipts from the Original Hidden Treasure mine, were $12,515 frem 600 tens ef ere. ‘ The sum ef $7,060 was received here last week from the Succor mine. Nearly 700 tens of ere were extracted frem the Hale & Nercross mine last week. Frem the Savage, 300 tons were taken, averaging $38 per ton. For the week ending on the 2Ist inst. 1,820 tone of ere were taken from the Crewn Point; ageay value $86,000. For the week ending last Saturday, the North Star mine shipped $7,050. The loss is ahout $3,300; origin of the fire notknown. These works were huilt more substantially than those destroyed by fire last October, when the loss was $25,000.
