January 6, 1872.] SCIENTIFIC PRESS: 5 cations are favorable. The appearance in tlo main shaft (situated ou the Nortb end of the ground ) is hetter than reportod last week, Icenenc.—< strike of rich ore was made in the mine tho past week. Heretofore tbe grade of tho ore has heen of a fair milling quality, ut tbe great improve: ment in the quality of the ore sinco we last visited the mine astonishes us. Gueat Western.—Work is snspended fortho winter. Sinco fall the amount of sbaft work done is 150 ft, and the levels rno will foot up 67 ft. Thero is a large hody of ledge matter in sight, hut tbe average assay will not go over $10 per ton. Operations will commenco oarly in the spring, and w4 are of the opinion that a good body of ore will bo opened out. Stow Dror SuHart.—Fair headway is made sinking, and no change to roport in the appearance of tho rock, Tbo foreman of tho works is sangnine of opening out a largo hody of ore after the shaft is down to ‘the proper depth, Noonvay.—The ore in the breast grades tho same as to quality as reported last. The tbickucss of the ore-hody has inereased. ‘The amount of ore hoisted daily is abont three tons. The usual force of men at work. Warp Beecner.—The shaft in the east end of the mine is going down in ore of ayorago milling grade. Tbe object in yiew is to connect with the drift running east from the Lady’s chamher. Enean.—The parties working the mine are taking out ore that will mill hetter than the last lot crushed, and feel satisfied of opening out a still higher grade of ore ina few days. Sinver Wave.— Work progresses in the Lyford, Perkins, Chamberlain and No, 4 shafts as nsual. ‘The contractors are makiug good headway. Sourna Avrora.—Tunneling and shafting goes ahead as usual. The contractors are making good headway. Gey Lezt.—The Supt. informs us that work will he resumed in afew weeks by contract, Oursipe Districts.—PrerMontr.—The mill shut down for repairs, but will start up again in afews days. Since we last madea noto of the Piermont Co.’s mines the ore has improved in grade, and the ledge has increased in width. The orebody is between 7 and 8 ft. wide, and there is a breast opened 150 ft. long. The whole underground force will he at work stoping out when the mill starts up. Scurtu Cnerk Mrvzes.—The .millof the Rnby M. & M. Co. will start up on ore from the Cow & Calf, one of the best mines in the Schell Creek Range, and afterward will commence on ore from the Silver Bluff. lately leased by the Co. As far as heard from, the mines throughout the range are looking well. The McMahon shows the usual fine body of ore, and is represented to he second to no mine in the Dist. San Joan Dzu Rio.—Work was suspended for a few days, on account of the stormy weather, but operations commenced again this week, and a seam of rich chloride ore was developed. The general appearance of the mine has improved since last reported. Tbe Supt. informs us that he will commence shipping to mill immediately after the holidays. Piocne.—The Panaca mine, belonging to the Raymond & Ely Co., is showing an extensive body of ore. The Pioché, Alps and American Flag mines come up to the expectations of the managers. Minus.—InTERNATIONAL.—Running on Company rock. Manwatran.—Running on tailings; will shut down for repairs in a few days. StTanprorp.—Running on tailings. Bic Suoxy.—Running on Hidden Treasure custom rock. Swanses,—Running on Hast Sheboyan ore, British Columbia. Cariso0.—British Colonist, Deo. 21: On Whliliams Creek mining operations have been retarded by the severe weather, on account of which work has been suspended in the principal claims. The Ballarat has commenced washing underground, and tbe Cariboo Co. are preparing to do likewise, On French Creek the Ambrose Co. has found good prospects on the high rock. The Black Bull Co. are engaged in getting their steam engine to the claim. On Jack of Clubs Creek, the Two Sisters Co. had got into the channel and obtained excellent prospects. Tbe First Chance Co., on the same creek continue to get average ay. During Nov. gold to the value of $75,415 was assayed atthe Government Assay ftice. Ominzoa.—The Gold Commissioner’s report, dated Oct. 23d, says: ‘* It is ditlieult to ascortain the amount of gold taken from tbe Omineca mines during the present season, but the returns that have heen furnished to me by the foreman of tbo prineipal Co. show a yield of $300,000, and to this may he added not less than $100,000 moro, taken away in the hands of whieb thero is’ no return, making in all $400,000.” Paine Cuam.—Standard, Dec, 20: The Paine claim on Germanson creck produced to 3 hands this soason $19,000 gold dust, and there was hut little expense connected tberewith, Besides this, specimens of nearly pure silver, copper and platinum have been taken out of this claim, Idaho. Surpep.—Owyhee Aculanche, Dec. 23: W. ¥. & Co. shipped from here yesterday 4 bars of bullion, valued at $8,069.50. Nick Zapp aud others have located 3 ,000 ft. squaro of placer miniug ground hetween the Oro Fino mine and Cape Horn. Good prospects have been ohtained and it is thought that the ground will pay well. Minin Recorn.—The North Discovery of the Oro Fino is yielding a large amount of ore. It is reported that a very rich strike has just been mado in that mine. The Sonth Oro Fino, is yielding from 25 to 30 tons of ore per day, which is heing crushed at the Elmore mill, This mine is so well opened that about a ton of ore to the mau is being daily taken out, at a cost to exceed $5 per ton. There are about 400 tons ahead of the mill. During the past week a rich strike has heen made iu the llth level of the Elmore 130 ft. north of the slip in the mine, Fifty or sixty dollar ore with a 2 ft. voin. The Golden Chariot is yielding fine looking orefrom both the 5th and 8th levels. Additional hands have heen put to work. The Minnesota is looking splendidly. The last contract for 100 ft. of shaftis completed which makes it 230 ft. deep. And now, 3 drifts are let to run from the main shaft—one north and two soutb: As soon as these drifts are in far enough; stoping will commence. There are already out at the mine over 100 tons of ore that will yield at least $40 or 50 por ton, and will be milled about the last of this month. The Mahogany shaft is going down for the 5th level. About the first of next month the shaft will be down far enough to be out of the way of cutting the ledge at the 4th level, which will then be done. The South Chariot is yiolding fine ore from the 4th level lately struck by Pete Nick, who is running tho drift. It is $35 or $40 ore, with a large ledge. The ore from the drift will he crushed during tho coming week. The War Eagle continues to yield a fine quality of ore. Gorn Sarewent.—Idaho World, Dec. 21: During Nov. the hank of DuRoll & Co., shipped below, gold bars of the aggrogate value of $1 00, 892.17. Montana. Quartz.—Helena Herald, Dec. 21: Work on tbe gold quartz ledge “Red Bluff,” below Sterling, in the Hot Springs Dist. is being vigorously prosecuted hy J. Lounds who is ohtaining good results. The ore, which is of a superior quality, is being worked in aarstras, ‘The quartz yield is said to abundant, and the profit quite satisfactory. Sruver Star.—Deer Lodgo Independent, Dec. 23: Porter, Harper & Ellis have bought tho Iron Rod lode and mill, and intend starting it up immediately. The Green Camphell mill is shut down for the present, the Uo. heing engaged in putting a shaft in the mine for the purpose of erecting hoisting works. Tripp & Ainsly’s mill is frozen up, Porter & Meagher’s new mill has made onerunfrom the Nugget lode, which proved successful. Quartz interests generally are looking well in Silver Star and Iron Rod dists. Panninc Ovt.—Helena Gazetie, Dec. 25: The Pittsburg mill has been crushing on the Jaw Bone lode, in the vicinity of St, Louis with good success producing $1,200 from 50 tons of rock. Utah. Bouuron.—S. L. Tribune, Dec. 27; W. F. & Co., received, Dec. 19 seven bars of bullion 786 tbs valued at $7,853.53, from Meadow Valley Co., consigned to New York. On the 26 they received from same place and Co., 6 bars, worth $6,638, also consigned to New York. Inano Mine.—This mite, discovered aud developed near Corinne promises well. Lirruz Corronwoop.—Cor. same: Among the most promising of the Little Cottonwood mines are the Last-Chance and Hiawatha, which have consolidated, and are about 300 feet in a westerly direction from the Montezuma and abont 1,500 ft. from the celehrated Emma mine. The Hiawatha was discoverod in June 1870, hy J. Despain; who with others, located 3,000 ft. thereon, hut afterward sold out to the present owners who have since continued the discovery shaft to the depth of 125 ft. exposing a well defined vein of ore, of an average thickness of ahout 20 inches. Samples taken from the bottom of this shaft and assayed gaye $282.76 silver per ton and 80 per cent. metallic lead; hut the gencral average assay of ores from this shaft, of whicb abont 40 tons are on tho dump, although carrying ahout 50 per cent of lead, contains only 50 ozs. of silver to the ton, The course of the Hiawatba is nearly north and south, while tbat of the Last Chance is northeast and southwest, and possesses all tlie features of a true fissure running diagonally to formation, or country rock. It is opened at 3 points by incliued shafts—one 90, one 45, and one 20 ft.— showing a continued vein of high grade ore for adistance of more than 200 ft. in length, and of an average thickness of about 2% ft. 2,121 tbs, takon at the depth of 60 ft, sampled and assayed, gave 29 per cent, lead, and $308 in silver per ton. 15,000 tbs, were sold at $52 per ton, San Francisco Mining Stock Market. Tuurspay Eve., Jan.4, 1872. Mining stocke were in active demand during the week. The sales at the Stock Board for the week ending December 27th were $1,780,000. There was no meeting of the Board on Saturday or Monday.
The stockholders of the Daney Mining Company have uuanimously voted to iucrease their capital stock irom °,000 shares of $60 each, to 24,000 shares of $100 each. As soon as the necessary papers can be prepared, holders will he preseuted with the newissue at the rate of three shares for one. Duriug the ensuing week, $50,000 is expected to be received from the Raymond & Ely miue. On the 29th December, $22,000 was shipped from the Chollar-Potosi mine. Thus far on December accouut, $101,700 has heen received from the Meadow Valley mine, Only 78 tons ore were taken from the Hale & Norcross mine last week, and 450 tons from Savage mins, the latter assaying $31.26 per ton. During the past week, 133 tons ore were raised from the North Star (Grass Valley) mine. The quantity reduced was 208 tons, leaving 120 tons onthe dumps. The Superintendent expects to “be able to make mouthly shipments large enough to make up forthe time stockholders have been without divideuds.’’ B. F. Sherwood, William Sharou, and R. F. Morrow have beeu elected Trustees of the Central Mining Co. The Board commenced operatious in September, 1862.
