BUTTE. : Tae New Dioorxos.—Butte Record, May 38: A miners’ meeting was heldonthe 28th of April, a new disirict was formed, which wes called the Bennett mining district. Prohahiy the moat extenalye claime in the dis trict arothose of the Greeley mining Co. Some five shefts sre now being sunkon thelr cleime. Good pay dirt has been struck in their shefts. Work has aleo cofamenced on the Globe compsny’s ehafts. There geome to be no douht of the extent and richnase of tha deposits. Gna or two of tha more advanced olaims are making from $10 to $20 per day with rocker; others are realizing from $$to $10, and ali are roslizing wages. ~The Greelay district 1a com ded both hy the Feather Riverand Ophir Weter companies ditch and hy tha Bennett ditch from tha 8onth Fork of Feather rivar. There le not fall sufficiant for eluicing, and tha dirt has to be raised and washed with rockers. Wa are assured that in nna dietrtct, which seems to have been more particulerly appropriated hy tha Chinese, willeoon con” tain 10,000 Chinamen. The interoct taken by nur mining popnlatlon, and the success they are meeting with, seems to dcmonstrate tha capability of these mines to support a large class of our American mining popnlaon also. % Ricw Quanrz.—Mr, Roberts, of Forbectown, haeshown us some very rich epecimane of quartz, from his ledge near Forbestown. The quartz chows vory rich, much of it being free gold in white quartz. Bnt thie Istter occurs nnly naar the bettom of the ledge, the maln por: tion of It presenting a bluish or eandstone appearanca, and belng very rich in flour gold. it is tha richest qnartz we hava seen In a long time, and, aethe ledga is said to davelop a width of 2ft., wa are dieposed to he. jiava that Mr. Roberts hae an exceedingly rich qnartz claim. CALAVERAS. Snerson & Co’e Hrpnaviic.—Calaverss Chronicle, May 3; Tueed 'y laat wa vielted tha hydranllc claim of Slmpgon, Vieth & Shear, locaied on Tunnel Ridge, which hae bnt recently been got into satisfactory operotion. The debris accumniated during former mining operations la nearly all removed and a‘*fuce” belng got on the bank, a circnmetance that will render tha obialo. {ng of an‘ahundance of gravel for washing an essy matter in tha fnture, Abont 300 inches of water are constantly need In the claim, condncted from the ditch In an 11{noh fron pipe, having a fall of 180 ft. The water is di. rected sgeinst tha hank hy means ofa “Hydraulic Ghief” nozzle, 3 inches in di ter at the d ng polnt, which can ‘be turned lo every direction and elevated or depressed at the will of the operotor. The forca of the water, impelled hy such 4 pressnre, le enormons. The solid hank of gravel melts eway before it jike a snowdrift before the warm rays of the sun, and aven hard masses of conglomerate sre perforated and diseotved by its rasistless action. The sluices are Bet with a daolination of 8 inches in 12 ft., 6 grade that enables tham to carry & vast amonnt of gravel and slso nermits the paseage of rocks of very considerohle size. he bedrock, whero it has been weshed over, shows gold plantifully and the gravel improves in sppearsnce ork progresses. Brelmessor,—Gne hundred tons of rock taken from this mine near Railroad Flat, cruahed in Clark's Mill at that place, yielded $2,500. An averoga of $25 per ton, whan the entire ledge is taken out and the unsesorted rock put throngh « hattery, ls a remarkably good yield. We understand that an extensive chimney of the same charocter of rock as thet crushed is now uncovered, and that the yield of tha mine will he lsrge and steady in tha future. Mone Mrmio Inrrovements.—We learn thet Mr. Poryea, proprietor of the famous Shaw hydreulle in Ohili Guich, is making preparations for the erection of a powerfnl derrick In his claim, A considerahle maces of cement hag made its appearance in the mine of s0 tough a textura that the hydreullo does not separete lt. A deposit of good looking gravel ia dieolosed by the tunnel, and as the gulch was very rich, beth ahova and below the location of the present operotione, the owners of theclaim ara sangulne that their mina will prove « paying one. 5 Comer.—Calaveraa Citizen, May 3: This mine, ownet by Lachapelle & Barnett, is situsied in the suburhs_of San Andress, abeut % milefromtown. For the purpose of prospecting their rock, they hnilt a small one horse arastra, and though the suenHey that conld be ground waa of necessity small, the result showed thet the rock will pay,and pay well. They have now some 15 or 20 tons of ora on hand, which will pay from $25 to $30 par ton. It is thelr intention. to haul It to Lloyd’s mill to be ornshed, and when they do we shall expect to chronicle a rich clean np. EL DORADO. The new ttrike is sitneted shout 450 ft. west from the sheft, and the drift hes passed into it 7 or 8 ft., with the face still in fine ore. How extensive it will develop to he, is, of course, not possible to know at present, hut it certainly is a mest important end encoureging development for that section of the old Comstock.
