Weekly Stock Review.
Tuurspay, March 12th, 1874.
Stocks continne dull and priceslow. There
has been very little animation in the stock
market for several weeks past, notwithstanding that the work of developmeut and ore production: goes on as steadily as ever, especially
in the Washoe mines. The continned had
weather has prevented the usnal quantity of
ore being sent to millin some localities, hut
generally news from the mines is pretty good.
The annual meeting of the Hale and Norcross
Co. was held this week, and the report of the officers snbmitted; it is referred to at length in
another column.
The Consolidated Virginia is yielding 200
tons of ore daily, and this amonnt will he considerably increased as soon as the roads are
sufficiently in order to permit the transportation of ore to the mills. On the 3d inst. $45,646
in bullion was shipped from the mine. A 20stsmp mill will be erected hy the Glohe Consolidated Mining Co., Washoe, at the mouth of
their tunnel, thus enabling them to work with
profit the hody of low-grade ore developed in
the upper portions of the mine. This company
is made np of the Arizona and Utah and Glohe
mining companies, which were consolidated on
the 14th of last month.
A set of Borleigh drills is heing set np for
use in the Gould & Corry mine. The air pipes
are heing carried down the shaft and everything pnt in readiness for starting the com.
pressor as soon as possible. :
The water on the 1,500-ft. level of the Crown
Point is rapidly diminishing in volume, and it
is expected that the level will soon he drained.
The Belcher is looking well throughont, and
the mills are running np to their full capacity.
F. T. Smith, lately of the Consolidated Virginia, has been appointed superintendent of
the Justice mine.
During the week the fluctuations have been
about as follows: Alpha has varied between
$11 and $1314; Belcher between $80 and $89;
Caledonia, $2874 and $3114; California, $3414
and $3714; Chollar $62 and $66; Cons. Virginia
$674% and $6914; Crown Point, $89 and $95;
Gould & Curry, $1834 and $203; Hale and
Norcross, $43 and $48; Justice, $8 and $914;
Ophir, $22 and $26; Savage, $73 and $86; Seg.
Belcher, $87 and $91; Union Cons. $1314 and
$16; Yellow, Jacket, $61 and $6544; Raymond
& Ely, $26 and $29; Chariot Hill, $434
and $6; Golden Chariot, $16 and
$1914; South Chariot $2244 and $24;
The prominent advances and declines
for the week are as follows: Best and Belcher
shows a falling off from last week’s highest
price of $314; Chollar, $5; Exchequer, $3;
Gonld & Corry, $214; Hale & Norcross, $1334;
Ophir, $9; Overman, $10; Savage, $14; Seg.
Belcher, $4; Yellow Jacket, $444; Raymond &
Ely, $4. The advances are few and small.
Caledonia shows an advance of $2; Crown
Point, $1, and Sierra Nevada, $1.
As we hear nothing more of the late rich
strike at Silver City, the presnmption is that
the mass of rich gold-bearing quartz strnck
npon was hut a pocket, and a small one at
. that.
Minino Exprprrion Forrrpnen.—The Secreretary of War has written to the Governor of
Montana, saying thst the proposed mining
expedition from @ point in thst Territory, alInded to in circulars recently forwarded by General Custer to the War Depsrtment, will not be
permitted to move. The reason for opposing
wonld attend it of seriously ageravating the
Indian troubles now in existence.
Tue Carson Mint received on the 6th from
the Mills on the Carson river, 40,000 ounces of
retorted amalgsm, from Crown Point ore for
coinage; also 13,000 ounces of silver from Ssn
Francisco, to be converted into trade dollars.
A large deposit for one day.

ae
ounce Summary.
_ THE following ls mostly condsnssd from jonrnals publishsd in ths intsrior,in proximity to the minss mentioned
California.
ALPINE COUNTY.
Minine Marrers,— Miner, March 7: In the Silver Glance mine the msin shaftmeasured 14314
ft. on March 2d, and the work of sinking is
heing stesdily pushed forward. The rook last
np from the bottom presents fine specimens of
quartz carrying good-looking snlphurets.
The ponderous and worthless furnace has
been removed from the M. & N. W. mill, and
other alterations will soon follow.
Itis rumored that work will commence on several absndoned claims as soon as the westher
will permit.
At Silver mountain the Exchequer mill is
working. The continued severity of the
weather, with almost constant storms, hss prevented mnch activity.
AMADOR COUNTY.
Puenrx Gorn Mive.—The new shaft on this
mine is now down 700 ft., and levels hsve
commenced tberefrom north and south. The
vein in the bottom of the new shaft is from
three to four feet thick. The south shaft has
also reached 700 feet in deptb, with a level
driven south 125 ft., and north from the shaft
90 ft., the ledge in the drifts heing from 3 to 4
ft. thick. The level north ia heing driven to
connect with the 700-ft, level running south
from the new shaft; the ledge in this level
will average over 30 ft. in width, and all the
rock in the 700-ft. level will pay $12 per ton by
mill process. Distance from north to south
shaft along the course of the vein, 235 ft.
The fine mill connected with the mine is kept
steadily employed. The ditch that supplies
the mill with motive power has heen greatly
improved, rendering the flumes of a permanent
character, and far less expensive than the
frame-work plan of snpporting them. The
ditch now has sufficient capacity to float from
the head, or from any intermediate point, all
timbers, lagging or material of that nature,
required hy either mill or mine. This will he
avery great saving in the delivery of all required timher material atthe mine, An immense reservoir has heen constructed some
distance above the mill, and intended to fornish the ditch when the nver supply becomes
scarce; this reservoir when filled will cover 160
acres, and a considerahle portion of it to the
depth of 25 ft., thus affording abundant supply
of water for all purposes of mill and mine
thronghout the dryest summers. The Phenix
mine will always rank as one of the first-class
mines of the connty.
CALAVERAS COUNTY.
Miuxine Irems.—Chronicle March 7th: The
gulch claim helonging to Mr. S. S. Moser, is
heing worked with profit to tbe owner. An immense quantity of tailings have heen ‘‘ run
down,’’ and the bottom of the gulch reached
for quite a distance near its head. Thousands
of inches of water are daily used.
Duryea is cleaning ledge. He has run two
tunnels into the high bank, towards Stockton
ridge, in which he intends setting off heavy
blasts.
Evans & McCann have run their tunnel 300
feet through the hardest kind of bedrock and
are still driving ahead.
Verrn & Co. had just cleaned up, after a two
weeks’ run, taking out something over $1,800.
‘Coox & Co. are still engaged piping surface,
not having commenced washing in the hill yet.
Brackett & Co. have not yet strnck gravel
exaotly to suit them and are prospecting for
the lead.
it is besause of the great prohahility which -
