Varney’s Patent Amalgamator.
These Machinea Stand Unrivaled.
For rapidity pniverizing and amalgamating ores, they
have no equal. Noeffort has been, or wil be spared
te have them constructed in the most perfect manner
and of the great number now in operation, not one has
ever required repsirs. The constant and increasing demand for them issufficient evidence of their merite.
They are constructed s0 46 to apply steam directly
into the pnlp, or with eteam hottoms, ss desired.
Thig Amalgamator Operates ag Follows:
The pan being Alled, the motion of the muller forces
the pulp to the center, whors it is drawn down throngh
the apperture and between the grinding surfaces.—
Thence it isthrown to the periphery into the quicksilver.
The curved plates again draw it to the center, where It
passee down, and to the circumference as befors, Thus
it is constantly passing aregular fow hetween the grinding surfaces and into the quicksilver, until tha ors is
reduced to an impaipahle powder, and the metal amelgamated.
Setlers made on the same principle excel all othera
They bring the pulp so constantly snd perfectly in contact with quicksiiver, that the particles are rapidly and
completely shsorbed.

BALL’S a
SWEEPING DREDGE,
A NEW AND VALUABLE
CALIFORNIA INVENTION,
Has been very lately well proven by performing a job of dredging at ths mouth of
San Antonio Creek, at Oakland, Cal.
There is hut this one machine that has ever had these
{mprovemente employed. It is an old machina, for-:
merly huflt for snother device, and is unfavorahly constructed for Ball's Lmprovements; yet this fret temporary experimental machIno has filled a scow of elghtyfive cublo yards {n sixteen minutes in unfavorshle digging. For durahility, digging hard material and fast
work, it has « reputation (supported by lesding engineers) as having no cquai,
Testimonials snd referonces wlll be given on appHcation to the inventor, who is the solo owner of patents
(excepting having made an assignment of the ona machine now belonging to the Central Pacifio Railroad
Oompany) Having resolved not to sell any rights
unless upon a basis of actual work performed hy a
machine bulit hy myseif fer the purpoas of falrly establishing the worth of the invention, I therefore offar
to seli machinee or rights on the foliowing pian, whioh
is gyarran ing the capscity of the machine hy actual
work:
I will enter into an agreement with any responsible
party to huild and soli a machine, scows and tender,
all complote, and right of ail my improvemente in
dredging machines throughout the Paclfie Coast for
$2u,000, warranting the machine to dredge six enhie
yards per minute (to fill a scow at that rate). $20,000
will hut little more than pay the cost of huilding the
machine, scows, etc., ali compiete; therefore I am proposing to ask nothing for my patents unless my mechine
dredges more than six cuhic yards per minute. But
it shaii be further agreed that in case (st a fair trial to
he made within a stuted time) the machine shall fll
ascow at the rate of more than six cuhle yards per
minute, then $10,000 shail be added to the price ahove
stated foreach and every such additions] cuhic yard
thne dredged per minute, and for additions] fractiona
of s cuhic yard thus dredged in the same ratio the
$10,000 is to ho added to said price above stated.
I wlll sell any other Territoriai or State rights (either
United States or Foreign) upon the same plan and at a
lower price proportionately than the rights for the
Pacific Coast.
I will selia single machine with scows and ali com.
pleto, and right to usetha same in a Umited territory,
for $20,000 on the same plan as above etated, hut will
add only $2,000 to esch additional yard over the six
cubic yarde per minute. Each machine is not to employ more than two 10x20 inch engines,
Payments to be made in U.8. goid coin on delivery
of machine, a8 may he indicated by agreement.
