March 25, 1876.] _MINING AND SeIENTIBIC’PRESS 197 Fa re Vfinine i UMMARY. THE followtag is mostly cnadensed from Jnorasle pukished {a theiatertoria proximitr to tha miaes meatinae, California. AMADOR. A Handeome Fixb.—Amador Ledger, March 14: On Mooday last Joseph Cunco wascugaoged in wheellug a harrow foli of retune rock throngh Volcaro, wheu he detected gold i a larys piece of quartz which had been washed bg the rain. He Immeutately secured the prize, aed found tt to be auriferous throughout, large chunks of gold belog wulhle all over it. The epeci. Men . e sald to contaln from $60 to $1,000 worth of wold—one of the higyest Onds that has been mado in theses parts for yosrs. Doixo WxLt.—We mentioned a few weeks ego that Richard Stocken hed discovervd a rich quortz yeiu few miles above Voleeno, and thst be liad warhe the dirt lu the viciulty of the lead, restizing s handsomo awn therefrom. He ia quietly pnuhlog bia operations, waylog little to anybx«ly, and givlug uo clue es to how he ie panning out. Hecleans up occasionally, and the impression ia gceers] that he vas struck a splendid thing. The whols nelghhorbood thervehouts will uudoubtedly be awarmed with prospectors the coming spriug and summer. Tite MOHAWK Mixe.—This miue {s located some four miles beyond Voleano. Work is being pushed ahead as pepilly as tha weather and facilities will permlt. The vein 16 narrow, from 12 to 18 juchee in width, but exccedingly rich in gold. There Ie a farge quantity of rock onthe dump awalting thipment, but the roads aapad heavy at preseut to sdmit of heuling It to the mili, Hypraviic Craim.—Tho hydraulic clalm of Mcssrs, Stickland & Hugues, seven milea east of Sutter Creek, ig kept constsntiy at work, end tha prospects ere very eucoureging. The first clean-up, made some weeks agoafter a sbortrnn with very littie water, realized only $94. Now they heve got the olalm into therough working order, en’ the outiook iy flattering. A nugget worth $20 was lately pleked np in the siuices, ‘he Owners are snergetic, enterprising men, end deserve success. Mazin Mixe,—The Mexlmilisn compeny heve leneed the old Rose mill on Sutter Creek for one year, and intend to put 1¢ in working order st once. The milli bay beenidie for a long tima, ond hus falien into adllepidsted condlilon, Tbo mortar hiock is hadly cut up, wood work rotted nwsy, and flume end ditch In bad order. It will cost from $2,000 to $3,000 to put It in repalr. Tha mill is only about belf a mite from the inine, Bonanza Mine.—We aro informed Ihat a rich hody of ore res heen struck lu tbe eouth drift of the BoDanza mino at Drytown, Tho ledge ie also widening out finciy. Meu ere now enesged in retimhering the shaft, Aeeoonas this is completed, eluking operetions wili be resumed. CALAVERAS. GnaveL Muninc —Caleveras Chronicle, March 18° Gravel mining ts progreseing briskly again, now tbat the temporary lack nf water, cuused by land elides on the ditch, leno longer felt. All the hydraulics are in full blast and the tunnel claime runnolpg full handed. Ltvely times this spring. Gorxo To Cueas Ur.—A clean-up Is to be made {n the Veith hydraulic next week—ths first of the sexson. The sliding of the blll has kept the hoys piplng so busily ducing the winter, to prevent being buried alive, that they haven't bad time to lift a riftic since the raius setin. Now Mr. Veith intends unloading his sluice XEB. San Bnuno.—lt is expected that the ‘raise’ in the Sau Brnopo will he complcted thls wsek. The new hoist. ing works wlil be put up immediately, the necessary machinery having heeu purchased and only awaiting better roads to he transpurted to the mine, With tbe opening of spring the upper country will he resonant with quartz mining music. ALL Ricut Aoain,—The land slides thit have letely Impeded the flow of water in the ditch and somewhust interfered with mining operations, have been removed nnd everything on the liue of the canal is lovaly again. There is an abundsnce of the aqueous and good uso is being made of it all. INYO. RounninG.—Inyo Ind:pendent, March 16: The Union Cousvlidated company, at Cerro Gordo, are now run. ning out bullion, thongh aa yet they have been able to slart but ons furnace—the Beaudry—on account of the Snow rendering it imposslble to obtaln coal In sufficient quantity. It will bs hut a short time, however, heforo both furnaces will he in fuli blast, Dazwin,—Cor, Bakersfield Courier, March 16; Most of the furnacos are idls at present, owing ton lack of coal, The wooded district upon which Darwin is depeudent for conl Hes in the Coso range, eight or ten miles west of Darwin, and the snow is so deep that the conl pro. dnction has been suspended for a time. The euspenslon wili not he of long dnration, and as soon as the snow melts the work will be resumed, and the Darwin furnaces wiil muke thelr regular roturns of hulllon. Mr. Blande has recently returnod from a proepecting trip to the Lee district, s.me 15 miles nortbsast of Darwin. The character of the ore is totally difforent from thet sat Darwin, ard is found in arange of low hroken hills distinct from the Darwin range. Free milling silver ore is found here, hut mostly in narrow ledges, and some of the assays are very high. Asa generai thing the ore lies In hunches, hut the Caotus and Valentins show well defined leads, ‘fhe ore is considered to he equal to the hest White Pine. A fivs-etump mill will be running hy the first of May, and tben thers will come good roports from the Lee district. MARIPOSA. Maairosa Lann and Mrnmno Company.—Mariposs Gazetle, March 18; For quiton long time we have hesn without advicee of the progress of tbe River tnonel and surrounding worka, hut it seems whlie we have heen waiting they have progressed steadily. Ths main heading ienow in 1,302 feet. with the face 1n very hard trap rock—no water tv speak of, The horing hy the Diamond drili from the heading of the west hranch drift of this tunnel has proved succensful. At a distance of 331 feet. a body of quartz was etruck through which tbe drill hored fur 14 feet, The rock core taken out showed conclusively that it came from a vein, especially asa ‘gouge’ was met just previous to striKing quartz. All credit is due to the englneer in charge of the Diamond drill, Mr. Frank Thomlar, for the care taken in runniog his machine, the more as the space in whioh he operalsd was very limited. We nre thor: oughly satisfied that the Diamvnd drill, judiciously used, wil be the means of revesllng tho bidden wealth of this sstate. The body of ore just discovered is ata point-70 feet distant from the 1400-ft statlon, 80 that ths River tunnel must he driven 100 feet, and 4 crossent eastward of 70 feet hefore reaching ths vein. Prospecting wlll he etill carried on to further examine this deposit. ] WasHINGTON MINE and Mitt.—This rich mine, whlch 1s located ahout two miles northwest from the town of Hornitos, in thls county, and about which hut little has been sald, has heen incldontnily heard from. We learn, through n friend who resides ln the vicinity of the Warhiogton mine, tbat notwithstanding the sevarity of the weather, which has been so prevalentof late, has not occasioned any damages or delayln or about the premises, and that the 20-stamp quartz crushing mill and chlorination works are moving gently along, ae though ths elements of nature were undisturhed, ae compsred with a mid-tumnier. This mine gives employment to ebout 75 men, who work nnodergrouud, be. aldes about a dozen npou the top, ip and avout thre mill. Thero are about 20u toes ot ore already npon the dump which, a6 @ matter of precautioe, in case of a delsy rp the holstiug worke or mine, is kept ou hand, so thst the mlll can proceed until any cseuse of delay lu the imine Can be removed. The ore ia rich lu sulphurets, which are eatimated at $75 per ton, and the gold la saved therefrom by tho process of chlorination, which adds fargely tothe average yield of the mluo, The waiu shalt is abont 700 fet deep. There ly vo weter below the 90-ft level of aey conxegnettco. The mill, mino, pumps and chlorinative works are all of the first order, and in most excellout coedltion. Thro clean. np occure once every two weeks, sud it is macifestly certain that thls mine aud its surrounilings, wilich is under the directlou of Mr. George E. Webber, superlutendent, aud Moves Rogers, an underground mining boas, utfords to Its owners a beral dividond, NEVADA. Owana Mine.—oohill Tidings, Merch 13: As we intiinnted the probebility of, last week, the Omaha mine of thie placo deciared its frst dividend 6 fuw daye since —the nice litle drift hack into the pockets of tae stockholders of $1 per share, payable next Monday. The board of directors, nlxo, at the requeat eud cousent of hoiders of more than two-thirdy of the capltal stock of the company, doclded to change the principal place of hueluess froul Sacramento to Sau Francieco, eld chenge to be made on the 15th of April next. The annual niceting of the stockholders will take place et tho new ofice, No. 226 Cajlfornia atreet,8au Francisco, on the 16th day of Apri) next, S1LVEB.—Nevada Transcript, March 18: Most of the mines of this county yield only gold hy mill process, hut experlments hy the Fryer process prove that wavy ofthem contain se much or more ailver theu gold, We kaw bOIe specimens of rock recently taken from the Providenco mine, efter lt had gone thronyh the roeste ing process et Fryer's werks, on which globnies of silver of different sizes were thickly scattered all over the surface. The Star ledge, owned by Perrin & Brown, ot Furest epriegs, 18 nnoifier lnxtence, It ieally cone teins more eilver than gold, yot none of the sliver has ever been saved hy mill process, If Mr. Fryer had goue no furthor than this step, his inventlon, in our opinion, would provo of as tnuch value to the mining interest of the world as eil the improvements heretofore mede in quartz mining. PLACER. Mnixo Items,— Dutch Flet Forum, Mar. 16: The storm mentioned in our lest raged with unabated tury till Monday nfternoon. 1t then cleared off and wae pleasant during Tuosday and yesterday, The miners who heve heen waiting with anxlety fura few days of plesssnt weather to complete outside work, eagerly took edvantege of the clreu and d work with nousnal vigor. Tbe men working on the splendid string of pipe heing laid to lead tha water into the Buckeye claim, and those making the slteration in the Frankliu plpe, changing it from the ditch of the South Yube canal compauy tothe Cedar Creek eompsny, commenced work promptly und ere pressing forward with all possihio haste, The tunnel leading into the Dutch Flat cluim is heing driven with un. ususl speed, the contractors having made 207 feet Isst jtuonth. The work of constructing the sluices in the Yaukee tunnol which wes suspended owing to the im possibility of gettIng inmber has heen reeumed. The Yaukee claim cleared upon Fridsy, the result helng unteually good for t1e numher of days run. The Pacifio and Oentral olaims have alsn olesned np and aro now refitting. The ditches are having a very rough time. The waterhas agaln heen out of the ditch of the 8, Y. canai company since our leat, and the ditcb of the Oedar Creek company covered with snow slides ahout 8 milo ahove Owl Camp, which shuts off the water eo that that company now usee only ahont #00 inches rnnuing. Ths foreman of the latter ditch, Joho Foster, writes thnt he has heon on thst ditch for 10 yeare, but never has eeen 80 much snow as at pres. ent, 1f the water daes not hoid out jate in the summner we eball conclude that all signe fail. SISKIYOU. A Mrnino ENTERPRIsE.—Yreka Union, Marcb 18: Mr. Frank Abrams, who resides at tho head of Coffee creek and 81lmon river, in whst used to he Klamath connty, informs ns that an English company have taken up considerahle ground In his viclnity for mining opera. tions, and ss s00n as they can get in will commence work, Gne of the locators was up in ths vicinity prospecting aronnd sometime during last summer, and this company {fe formed on the result of his observations. Tue miners of Scott valley are jubllant. They have now s certalnty of s long run the coming summer, which wili no doubt insure them a golden harvest. Mesars. Kingery & Cory have fonnd fiue prospects in their quartz ledgo, and are now well satisfied that it will pay for the constructlon of a mill. Messrs. Hopper & Son also intend to hulld a mill this coming sum. meron Rattlesnake creck, for crnshlng rock in that vicinity, Wemay therefors look for lively times lo the mines, SONOMA. QUICKSILVEN.—Russian River Flag, March 18: The Phonix mine is working 12 men, prospecting, and find. ing some very finé ore on the lower level. Only nretort ig running now, tha fornace heing temporarily closed down, Inthe last six monthe 511 flasks were produced, 8 yood yield. Tue Taylor mine, situated ahont 16 miles northeast of the upper end of Clear lake, ylelded one-half pound of pnre quicksilver the othsr day ‘from one common tank of ore, and that, too, not having heen selected. Nevada. WASHOE DISTRICT. Beicnen.—Gold Hill News, Mar. 16: Daily yield, 465 tons of ore, keeping the mllis ali running up to their full capacity, The ore hre ists nre all looking finely, aud are yielding the usnal amount of good ore. The prospecting drifts on tho 16\0-ft level are showing finely. ‘The ore in the bottom of the winzes helow the 1500-{¢ lsvel is showlng a steady Improvement. The entirs mine, in fact, is looklng hettsr with every step of development now making. The air shaft je being sunk at a rapid rate helow the 1500-ft lsvei. It 1s expected that the ground will be amply dry cnougb to start the pumps to working directly from the 1600 ft level, when once they are in rmmnniag order, JuLIa.—Sinking the shaft is making excellent head. way, tbe hottom stiilin quariz and ledge material of ahighly favorable character, Tbe face of the malo southwest drift on tho 1600-tt level has passed tbrough the clay nnd porphyry enconntered Inst week, and is now almost the entire elze ln quarlz and low grade ore. ‘This proves the hedy of porpuyry just pas3ed through to be nothlng more thsn a4 large horse, and that the vein on that level is actually 400 to 600 feet In width, QxOoLLAR-PoTos!.—No ore je helng sxtracted at pres. cnt, owing to the had condition of the roads. Sinking the combination sheft is making steady progress, the hottom during the first part of the week having passed Into very soft ground, with a strong increase in tbe flow of water. Nraoana.—The orectlon of tho hoisting worksisahout completed, ready to resume the alnking of the main incline. At the time of the suspension ot the work in the bettom of the incline last fall, some very fayorahle ore indlcatlons were encountered.
AMAZON aND GLAasoow.—The erectlon of tho nsw hoisting ond pumplog mnchinery is slwost finished, ready for operation. it will not be long hefyre the water is dralned, Buiiion.—The maln northeast drift on the 2000-ft level is eteadlly advancing, without a change in the porphyry formation, The north drift on the 1400.ft level hes been cleared and repaired a distance of 216 feet. It ia the lntentlon in s very short time to start a winze downward from tte drift to coenect with the npraise from the level below. This will give a good ventilation of the tuwer levels. It ie the intention ee soon asthe north end of the drift on the 1400-ft level Is Teached and the repairs compieted, in drive the drift directly ahead toward the north iine. The company have yet 460 feet of virgin unprospected ground on the borth end of thelrolaim, of the character of which on the 1400-ft level nothing whatever is kuown. The fedge ou the 800 and 1000.(t Iovels In that portion of the miue waa over 150 feet in width, ourryrug rich stresks of gold orv, and lt may be that a development af that portion muy yet prove it tohe the best portion of the nilne. QuNsoLIWaTED Virointa.—Daily ylold, 750 tons of ore, keeping all the mills steadily running. The ore breasts were uover showing more fayorahly than et this time, and the future prospects of the mine never more flattering. The yleld of bulllon np to the present time {8 over $200,000 ahead of whnt it was nt the same date lant mouth, sed if no eccident or unavoldehle delay shell» cer bofore the cloxe of the month, tbe yleld wiil evt fall short of $3°0,0'0,C00. The east drift, running iu the enst country rock, to connect with the 0. & Q. shatt nn tho 1300-ft level, ls golng steadlly ahead, the face stlit helng perfectly dry, showieg slriost beyond 4 doubt that there jaan intervening body of clay hetween this drift nud the strong hody of water now belng drained in the shaft. Mrxican.—The week has heen mostly spent in driving thrJ nain drift on the 1465-ft level further to the northward, and in cross-cutting to determine the width and oxtent of the ore body recently struck in thet portion of the mine. The prospecting shows thet tbe ore hody ls undonhtedly largo, and has elso proven that tbe quality of the ore is snoh as to psy well for mining sud milling. The full limits of the discovery cannot of conrse yet he known, but enongh hee slresdy heen determined to prove tbat it is of great value, end tho chences are that it will prove itself to he the richest and largest hody of paying ore aver yet developed on the north end of the Comstock. The: re, while ay: ereging well, has rich and poor spots, some portions easaylug into the thousands, while othersrun quite low. The findieg of ¢ tontinnation of paying oret>the north. ward is not only a good thing for the stockholders of the Mexican, but ie nlso a great encouragement to ell neighhoring rrospecting cleims, hringing, 69 it does, theore dévelopments right to their very Itmits, Oputa.Daily yleld, 150 tons of ore, keeping the Empire State and Nevada mille stoedlly running. The Wlaficld mill bas not yet started up, the had conditlon of the roads preventing the delivering .{ a regular supply of ore. The ore breasts ara yiolding well, end show no signs whatover of depletion. The new and powerful incline hoisting machlnary was started up day betore yesterday, everythlng working with the ut. most perfcction end emoothness. CaLironnia.—The north drift on the 1650-ft level has shout 20 feet yet to run to counect with the bottom of tbe winze now einking helow tbe 1550-!t level in crosscut No. 6. Both tbe face of the drift and the hettom of the winze are stlll in richore, The pumpsare hoisting @ steady stream of about 25 inchee of water, miners’ measurement, They are capable of hoisting 40 inches with the same ease, co that there is no immedlete danger of a flow that they cannot master. CosmorouitaN.—The face of the maln drift north, following the vein, continues in the same excellent ore which baa characterized lhe isst 30 or 40 feet, showing consldcrahie improvement, however, a8 further advanca has been end is heing made, Tbe whole fece of the drift is now in ore which gives high assays, and heavy additions to the already well loaded dump. This main adit tnonel is now In nearly 800 feet, and cross. cutting in the good ore vein at the north eud will soon be commenced, Srerra Nevava.--The eastand west prospecting drifts at the 1500-ft station are steadily advancing in very fayerahle ground. The winze helng sunk helow the 100-tt level of tbe north drift from the old shaft ia going steadily nbead, the hottom in good working ground. Sinver Orry.—The ore Is heing stoped out north and south from heth upraises. Tbe hreasts are looking and yielding well at all points, giving the usual daily addition of ore to the ahundant accumulation already on hend. Lany WaAsHINOTON.—Very good provrsss continues to bo made sinking ths shaft, the materlal met with helng of the most fsvorahle character. Sutro TunneL.—Total length of the tunnel last evening, $2,613 fect. The materlal mst with works very favyorahly, allowing of more rapid advancement than heretofore. Overuan.—*ioking the ehaft ie making mnch hatter progress than for some time past, although the rock in the hottom is yet very tongh and hard to blast. Kossura.—The maln sonth drift on the 350-ft lovel 1s Steadily advancing, the face in ore which assays rich in gold, The ledge on the 250-ft Isvel is steadily wldening and showing more favorahle to tbe southward as the drift advances, Fronma.—The grading for the new and powerful holeting machinery is fully completed nnd the machlnery is being put in position as fast as it orrives. Suuirvan.—Conslderahle improvement is mst with in the face of the cast croes-cut, hetter quartz having been found durlng the weok tban bas yet been shown at this level. It ie in fine looking streake which assay from $30 to $50. Dayvon.—Both tho north and eonth drifts on the 500. ft levsl are advancing ina very fa fe ion Usion Gonenupaten.—The winze now being anuk below the 1300.f level ig stoadliy edvsneing downward, cutting In {ta course many fine streake of good ore. The sltuation of thls winze is some distance west of the new ore body discovered hy the north drift In the Mexicen ground, 80 thst it cannot be expected to etrike the same ore body untll it has reached the 1465-ft level and a drift baa been run from the hettom far enongh east to resch the same portion of the veln, YELLOW JaokET.—All of the drifts are iu porphyry. The cross-cuts on the 1740-ft level eontinue to look quite fevorahle. Trosan.—The erectlon of tha new holsting works hullding and the now steam holeting mschinery ie inaking steady progress, ahout 40 men are omployed on the works, Lro.—The extractlon of ore for tailling was commenced yesterday. 1t is estimated that thero Is an ebundanve of ore in sight; enough to koap 6 10-stamp mill running for elght months or more, BaLTIMORE ann AMERICAN Foat.—The east drift on the 1050-ft levol is steadily advancleg, the face In very tevorsble ledge formation. The 15U-ft station Is comPiet end reedy to atart 6 prospecting drift at thet point. Hae & Noacnoss.—Nothieg doing in the mine nn necount of the Hooding of tho lower levels by tha water from the Sevage, IMPERIAL-EMPME,—The north drift, on the 2000-ft level, has peesed tbrough the hreken up formation of qnuitz and porphyry, reported iast week, iuto # fine ore formation that promises tho opening of 4 large body of pay oro, . Arizona. IsABELLA MILL AND MINE oN Bro Bvo,—Arlzona finer, March 12; Mr, C, E. Hitehceck commenced work On the leabetle mine with 6 smnll force, nnder Bully Gavin, on the Ist of November. They now have four ehefts from60 to G0 feet deap, nnd levels rnn 60 fest each wey, showing a vein of ore from two nnd a hnif to four feet wide. They hive ont 600 tons, and nre averaging twoand n heif tons per daytothe man. Work commenced on tho mlil and huild ngs December Ist, and in ¢5 daye the ditch, water wheai, road, etc., wera completed, and in 90 days tho 10-stamp miil was running with 300 tons of ore in front of the betterios, This ia perhaps the qulekest work in the way of mill building end mine deveioplug on record. Mr. J.J. Hill, who bng bad charge of the erection of the miil and water wheel, wae ju town on Tuesday, nnd reports the miil runnieg, with snow enough Inthe mouvtalne ehove it to insure water to keep It golng for the next three monthe. Mr, Hill saye tha Isabella hae developed a good mina in every shaft, and looke as fine ns any veln be has ever seen. Tha veln ie nerrow on the surface, hnt at a depth of 25 feat end thence downward it fills the entire aze of a working shaft. Notbing hut miliing ore is hoisted out; there is no weste. Prospect shefts nlong the lead for 3,000 feet show the same characier of ore as thet already mined. Idaho. ») Tae ALTURAS Bonanza.—Idaho Avalanche, Merch 10: In a private lotter received yesterday from Rocky Bar tho followieg reference is made to the qnality and qnantity of the rich rock recently extrected from the hig hdge at Atlanta: “At Atlanta the Monarch company have out and sacked for shipment $300,000 worth of ore which has heen taken out thls winter at a cost not to exceed $7,000, and allowing 65 an extreme ont«ide limit $10,000 for {nrther conts of handling, ebipping, reductli-n and commiskion will leave tbe snug littlesum of $283,000, The prospects of that camp are very fisttering, although for some time to come no great force of men can find employment.” from other sonreca we also learn that Alturas is looming up splendld'y, and with the expected new capltal that wlll prohably he hrought in tbls epring, for the purpose of working up the mines on a larger scale, the most favorahle results are anticipated. Thersis not a more promieing cemp on the Pacifio coast, Montana. PrLAoEa Minino.—Afontanian, March 12: The proe pects at this writing are very favorable for an early com of in the placer mines of this county. Qn acconnt of the mildness of tbe winter, the frost has not penetrated the earth to a very greet depth, snd nnless some very cold wenther inter: vyenes hetween now and the heginnlng of the working geason, tbe mines wii] he started up eeveral weeks aarlierthan usual, The indicatlons mre thst the yield from Onr plscers during the season of 1876 wili ha folly up to the aversge of the past few yeara, if not actnaily greater; and we confidently look forward to a prosperons soason for this important interest. Some work has been done durlng the winter months, and ths elulcing of the gravel which has heen nncovered wiil produce quite alarge amount of money ina few wesks. "Ye honest miner" ls hopeful and we trust to see his wishes fally realized. Utah. Srar Distaict.—Cor. Salt Loke Tribune, Mar.19: The Big Bonanza 1s looking hetter than ever. The partiee who hought it immediately put on a gang of miners and have sunk the prospect shaft to a depth of 54 feet in solid ore of n higher grade then whsn first struck, Work 1s helng pushed ahead on this mins ae fast as elrcumstances will permit, It will undoubtedly prove running parallel with the ledge. Norra Oanson.—Driftlog north from the newly opened 250-ft level is actively commenced and making excellent progress, The width of the vein at thie point is grcater than in the lsvels above, snd some of the ore assaysevery high, with plenty of lt in sight. Gouin & Curay.—The excavations lor the founda. tions for the new pumping machinory will he commenced ins very shot time, SavaoE.—The water ln the shaft romains stationary at the 1800 ft level. Preparations for the erectlon of the new and powerful pumping maohlnery are going steadily forward. Wenpea.—Mr. J. P. Hutchinson, the very efficient saperintendent, is now in San Francisco contracting for eteam hoisting machinery for driving the work at a much more rapid rate. NontH Day ron.—The ore vein glves assays of from $30 to $40 to the ton, and is increasing in width. ALta.—The shaft has agaln heen drained aud the slnking resumed. Onown Point.—Daily yield of ore, 360 tons, keepiug the mills steadlly running. Rook lsuand —The prospecting drifts at the 850-ft level are steadily sdvnnelng in very favorable veln formation. Prosrect.—Mors streaks of quarlz contlone coming in at the hottom of tho shaft, and the prospect ia tbat theso streaks, all of which give good assays, will conSolidate iuto a ledge of pay ore. Best ano BetcHen.—Repalring the main drift connecting with the Gould & Curry on ths 1700-ft level 1s going steadily ahead, the damage to the drift proving much greater than was at first expected. LeviaTHan.—The shaft continnes in the same excellent ledge matter montioned tast week, with continued improvement. Lavy Bryan.—The eonth drift from ihe 500-ft station ig steadily advancing, the face In a fine quality of quartz, carrying spots of ore. The prospecting drifts on tho 380-ft level are all showing well, and the west cross-cut, No. 1, ls steadily developing a fine hody of ay ore. E TNlonE ances mee Tne greatest activity 1e exhihited hoth in sinking the shaft and opening the driftson the lowsr levsls, preparatory to cross.cutting tbe ore vein.
