What business there has been done has been without special interest, aud fluctuations slight. enough for three Boards, News from mines continues favorable, and the situation on the Comstock is thus summarized by the News: Especially in California do we hear of many new and rich strikes in various localities. Considerable attention is being paid to gravel mines at present and areas of new ground are being opened in several of the interior counties. Clean-nps are the order of the day aniong these mines just now. We give, in another column, a sbort history of the famous Eureka, Grass Valley, miue, which has permanently closed down. This mine was well known in this city where it made a reputation as a bullion producer, and was considered as a representative California mine. Owing to the occurrence of the Fourth of July and its attendant celebration, we are without our usual summary of news from the Comstock, it having failed te come to hand. A New Frovrr-Dryine Facrory. — The Chico Enterprise of a recent date bas information that General Bidwell has got pretty well under way a large and commodious huilding, to be designated the Rancho Chico Fruit-Drying Factory. The building is two-story and hasement 48x64, and is to contain two furnaces of the largest size, with an engine to drive the blower. By this apparatus the heat can he regulated as wellas the current, and when in full operation can turn out a car-load of peaches, apples or pears per day. The ‘engine and machinery are on the way from New York, and iu about three weeks the whole thing is expected to be in operatiou, when we will be ahle to speak more definitely of the project. The enterprise of General Bidwell in this respect is highly commendable, and we hope that tbe enterprise will not he confined to the drying alone, but that canning hoth fruit and vegetables will form a department in the factory.
