The stock market of ‘the: past week has heen , bveber than for many months, The strike on the 1900-foot level of Ophir started the ball rolling and got up an excitement which as long as it lasted reminded the brokers of the palmy days of the stockjhoard. However, after going up to $57 per share, it fell hell hack to the twenties, catching a good many on the wrong side of the turn. The stock was very niueh scattered and held in small lots in every direction. On one day over 19,000 shares changed hands. Concerning the ‘‘strike” in Ophir, the Gold Hill News says: It isa small yein of medium grade ore ten feet in width, found in the east drift of the 1900 level 390 feet east of the incline and 300 feet north of the California north line, heing nearly in the middle of the Ophir mine. Average assays do not indicate that the ore will mill over $30 to $40 to the ton, hut heing found at such a depth, ahout 350 feet helow the 1650 or poser lowest ore yielding level of the California and Consolidated Virginia, gives to the development a great degree of importance. The character of the ore also is such as to justify the helief that it will lead to the development of a valuable and productive bonanza. Aftcr passing through the vein the drift ran into a horse of porphyry and it still continues inthe same. The drift was into it 15 feet at noon to-day, with no sign of any eastern boundary. Wbether this horse is 50 or 500 feet wide remains to be found out hy drifting through it, but the drift may cut through into rich ore at any moment. Ophir is the niost sensitive stock on the list to-day, Tue CoInacE executed in the United States mints for the month of October, 1877, is as follows: Double eagles, $5,454, 800; half eagles, $5,000; quarter eagles, $20,000. Total ‘gold coinage, $5,479,800. Trade dollars, $1,075,050; half dollars, 711,225; quarter glans, $554,012; twenty cent pieces, $10; dimes, $76,405. Total silver coinage, $2,416, 102,
