A little rise and a little fall with no remarkahle changes at all. The only stock showing any remarkahle rise this week was Eureka Consolidated. People: do not seem to take to stock as they used to, so that the husiness is quite unsatisfactory. The Gold Hill News says: The fact of it is that there have been uo new developments of value, outside of the great bonanza at the north end, to create new channels of speculation and cause new and rapid movements in stocks. Nobody knows, . however, how soon some new development may he made, but everybody waits with feverish anxiety the turning up of something uew and exciting. Overman and Caledonia are showing improvement, also the Justice, and the prospects of Yellow Jacket, Imperial, Utah, Gould & Curry and Belcher, for finding ore, are excellent. Work is ahout heing resumed on the Lady Bryan, Wells Fargo and other suspénded mines, and gradually mining operations generally are assuming a more healthy and encouraging look. By many, the value of outside or prospecting mines is considered to be merely what the surface machinery will sell for, yet, after all, location will he found to have considerahle bearing on the case. A prospecting mine upon which thousands upon thousands of dollars have heen expended in costly machinery, deep shafts, numerous well-prospected levels without developing paying bodies of ore is not worth so much as a good location of virgin ground with neither machinery nor shaft to recommend it. The one is proven to he worthless, while the other is not. The mine with the good location is the one most likely to develop something valuable. As to the prospects and yield of the honanza mines, there is oF course hut little to say, as the hullion shows for itself, and the regular dividends follow. The hullion yield from the Con. Virginia and California for the past month show no falling off; and the payment of the ular dividend of $2 by each is fully secured aad assured, The ore sections hold out splenieee with an ahundance of the bullion material in sight in all directions, and the lower levels are showing and promising as well as could he reasonahly desired. The joint douhle winze at the 1650-foot level on the line hetween the two mines having passed entirely through that small porphyry horse, is now entirely In rich ore again, heing in the 70-foot vein west of the horse. It will not he many weeks hefore the drift from the C. & C. shaft will connect with I this winze, at the 1750-foot level, and there is every reasou to belicve that the new level will turn out as rich as the present lowest, or 1650foot level. Itis true that thete are limits to all honanzas, yet this one shows size and strength of general character sufficient to carry it to the 2000-foot level. . THE Secretary of the Treasury will soon disatch a revenue cutter from San Francisco to Sitka, to take measures to protect puhlic property and assist the collector of customs in enforcing the laws and the regulations for the government of Sitka, THE woolen goods commission firm of Thomas & Co., of New York, have failed for $500,000. oe
