SATURDAY MO ING, APRIL 11th.
How Tov SeELt Ick CREAM ON A FROSTy NiGHt.—A good story is, told of how to
get.rid of a large quantity of ice cream wien
‘the weather’ catches a-sudden cold, which
we must repeat. At a late calico party a
large quantity of ice cream. was found oa
hand and with but a cold night to dispose of
The genius of the ladies soon invented a
way to create a demand for their frozen article. The largest size of stove was set-upin the dance room and filled with piteh and
other fat combustibles, and touched off. It
was’nt long before the perspiration oozed
from the pores of more than a hundred dancers. Whew! waa’nt it a regular roaster.
Nothing but ice cream. would de. The de»
mand was enormous. Everybody wiped
. away the big drops, and made internal applieation of the frozen stuff. For a frosty night
the sales were splendid. Most of the company thotight it was a lucky accident that ice
cream had béén prepared, and gave the las
‘dies great credit for ‘ttte” extreme good
providence for the occasion. But when the
company went to supper, some managers
who did’nt-enderstand the thing, resolved to
remove the stove, which they did. Nothing
could exceed the chagrin and disgust of the
lady gevius who had fired up for the evening,
when on returning to the hall, she saw her
cast iron ice cream vender had departed.—
She “let the cat out of the bag” by declaring
that the red hot stove was expressly there to
créate a heat for ice cream to cool, and. that
the Church would lose fitty dollars by some
moony removing it.
SIMONSEN’S ConcertT.—Martin Simonser and lady, accompanied by other fine
musical performers, will treat the ladies and”
gentlemen of Nevada to a grand concert, at
the Baptist Church, on Wednesday evening
next. In 1850 and 1851 we were constant
in our attendance, upon Martin Simonsen’s
performances on the vidlin. He waa a
wonderful performer then. Ino his hands the
violin. was a living sentient thing, We
are told. he has greatly improved-since. But
whether he has or not, we can gay to out
readers in all sincerity that we do not believe there ia such another performer on the
violin in the world. If the people of this
city desire to. witness ‘the aoul of music
gush” let them go to Martin Simonsen’s
concert.
Ce There was a time when four horses to
a stage wad deemed sufficient to make quick
trips. Of late most of the stages runing
out of this city have six horees. We noticed
yesterday the California Stage Co. had six
on the Lincoln and six on the Washoe line,
McCue's line six, Brown’s Red Dog Stage
six. and Hank Place, the Washington, Alpha
and Omege line, six. However, there seems
to be more traveling than heretofore. Pero_.ple are emigrating and arriving in this oity
from every direction. Fifty and eighty per» sone are leaving daily and about the same
“number arriving.
We would call attention to the advertise
ment of Augustine Isoard, to be found in
another colamn. Mr. Isoard has just returned trom the Bay, with a very large stock of
wines and liquors, the best te be found in
Dealers would do well to give . ,
him a call.
Ee" We learn that“Mr:. Sneath has sold
out his interest, one-third, in the quartz
mill and diggings, to hid two brothers, for
$150,000. At this estimate the claim is vals
ued at $459,000. We doubt if it could be
purchased even at that price of Sneath &
Clay.
"Geo. S. Hupp, Esq. has removed his
office to the rooms lately occupied by Mesars. MeConne!l & Garber, in Kidd's build
ing. corner of Broad and Pine streets.
