“ Got a BaBy.”’—* A well spring of joy’ +
has opened in the house<of our cotemporary,
the editor of the Lagrange (Mo.) American
and the consequence is, the editor is so delighted, he don’t kuow which end he is stand‘ingon. Just listen to him:
Last Wednesday afternoon “ tous a child
was born.” but vot ason was given. We
feel prond of our baby—it is so pretty and
sweet, so our better half says. It1s'a girl .
of course—our wife wanted a girl—so we
gave up to her—the_ times being teo hard to
split the difference and have a girland boy
both at. once. * Our time will come next—
see if itdon't. Our baby weighs eight pounds
and all the ladies say that it is such a pretty
little angel, and looks just like its papa. Of
course everybody will know i.’s pretty, when
it resembles us. It has black zyes; dark hair
and the sweetest little face, and the way it
can cry is a caution toa Calliope—but then
its little voice is so charming, producing such
a harmony of sweet sounds. It was the first
time that we eyer heard our baby’s veiee, and
what a thrillof. happiness did that little
sound send through our bosom.
But we are‘.too happy to express our
feelings. We are at least two feet taller
than we were before our baby was. born, and
think ourselves good’ enough to become a
preacher. We pity everybody that hasn’t
got a baby, and as for old bachelors, we entertain asovereign contempt for them, and
intend to lam the first one tha: presumes to
have the effrontery to speak to us. Poor
feel sorry forthem, Oh,that they could only
realize the happiness ofa young mother-with
her first born. Young men and young ladies
too, our.advice to you is. * go and do likewise,”—it will make you feel so happy to
havea baby. We warn everybody not to
insultJ us, for we feel big enough and strong
enough to whip every one of the Seceding
States into the Union, and a single man
wouldn’t be a taste -fur us. We are doubly
sound on the Union just now. We never
intend to secede from our baby.
adn,
Nota Bap JoKe.—The Salem Gazette
says that the wife of a4 gentleman of that
town, recently took into her service a girl
just arrived from Ireland. On the following
morning, she accosted the mistress with the . exclamation :
“They've been playing tricks upen us.—
There’s been a boy all about the neighborhook sticking wet paper into everybody’s
door.” er Se
“ Her employer told her that it was only
the paper. . {
“Ono! she answered, “ It could not be
the newspaper, for it was wet. And_I rolled up the one at our door and flung it after
the blackguard,’ as soon as he was out of
sight.” :
The blunder cost the editor another paper,
but paid him its cost ina heat ty laugh.
