madé himself obnoxious to some individual,

He must have been hit with brass knuckles..
, CePA mysterious noise, suggestive of
something tragic, was heard to issue from
Ah Sing’s wash house, on Commercial street,
near Main. Some of the neighbors, on, looking in from the rear. of the house saw, that
the disturbance arose from. Mr. and Mrs. Ah
Sing being in ‘the act of settling some little
family difference—scratching, biting.and hair
pulling, being the arguments used. They
desisted, thinking it was the police, but after.
a while, thinking that everything was quiet,
‘and there was no danger of intrusion, they
renewed the fun. As the woman isa Chinese
virago, and had, in the first set-to, proved
herself a match for her opponent, the neigh. bora let them rip, and the way they did go it
would have excited the admiration of the.
famous Kilkenny cats, had they seen it before
they themselves tought tiat celebrated battle in which their narratives were all that . .
was left. Unfortunately, the police came and
spoiled the sport by threatening to break open
the door. At this the Celestial couple scampered out the back way. Next morning, the
bunches ‘of hair scattered around and a woman’s false queue, which Lokalitums picked
ap, told the tail of the previous night's conflict. ~

City, and. will be found wortby of persual.
Will Nevada ever become a State? We
hear this question asked on every side, and
variably—answer— Yes! We will” briefly.
state our reasons for so believing. The TerSitors of Nevada has within its-limits almust
as great a variety of soil and elimate as the
‘State of California: It extends north and
south parallel with that State ; and the difference between the climate of Trinity and Los
Angeles is about equal to that between the
Nevada Territory, and the Monave and Colorado, in thesou ern part. Within the limits,
stated, there is every variety offoil, adapted
to the cultivation of nearly all the products
that-are raised in California. Nevada Territory has generally been considered a desert waste, possessing no importance except
such.asits mineral wealth has givenit. Such
ideas have been formed upon very superficial . e
surveys of our new Territory. Commencing
at the southern portion of our Territory upon
its western pretense and continuing northward to the Orcgon ine; there is a continued
series of fertile valleys, of which Carson,
Washoe and Honey Lake valleys are samples.
The valleys north and south of those named
are equally fertile, and only await their _settlement. to prove our assertions correct. Eastard from the cordon of valleys alluded to,
the entire.country, with the exception of
some few desert wastes, is another series of
fertile valleys. Even now, parties lately arrived from the Humboldt state that the grass
is six inches-in height, and the cattle in that
section are in splendid condition. The Daily
Mail Route, in Jependently of the minerals
to be found there, will cause that portion of
the Territory to be speedily se

there are enough minea already diecavered,
and enough known about the agricultural
resources of the Territory, to warrant. that
in two years our immigration will exceed the
population of Kansas at the time of its admission as a State. The population of the]:
Territory at the present time cafiipt be far
from 20,000 souls, and the prophecy. that. it
will be doubled during the next year would
not be an extravagant prediction. The immigration for that time Pal be in an inereasd ratio, for, as we have before stated, we
