THURSDAY MORNING, APRIL 9th. .
EASTER LT A I I ETSI
Townswp Law.—We believe if a peti“tion were circulated setting furth the imper“fections of the Township Law and asking the.
Legislature to repeal it, nearly every persen
in this county would sign it. It is claimed by
those who have made it their business to iim
form themselves in such mattérs fhat if the
present Township Law goes into effect it will
alestroy some of the schools_of the county.—
fecta of the law. The whole. thing wants to
be remodeled or repealed. The people voted
for it inconsiderately. and they acknowledge
the error, they hope not teo late.No. Matt AGAIN.—The letter mail from
Sacramento was missing on Tuesday evening.
Somehow, there is the grossest kind of care.
lesenesa in-carrying the mail now-axdays.—
We océasionally hear of a mail being carried
over to Nevada Territory by the blundering
‘sort of work. It won’t do.
THAT SUPPER 10sNIGHT.—Those who
are fond of genteel society and rational ens
joyment wil! not forget the supper and dance
toxnight at Temperance Hall. There will
be in attendance the young and the beautiful. Everybody who basa ticket had bet.
ter go, and those who ean spare three dollars,
should make up their minds todo so to-night.
It's a good place to spend :your money and
time—so the ladies say, and they always
know best. —_
Furniture Avction.—A lot of furniture
and dry goods was sold yesterday by Ike
Williamson at auction. The prices brought
were low. Uncle Ike will make another sale
on Tuesday.
Caveut a CoLp.—Our late beautiful
weather has caught a severe cold. There
was 8 strong teadency to snow yesterday
morning, and indeed snow did fall on the
hills hereabout. Most kinds ‘of stone fruit
-and pear trees are in bloom. The appearance of these pasaing gold nights is promis«
ing.
~The Odd Fellows at Dutch-Flat are
making extensive preparations for a_.grand

a short time. ;
San JUAN Press.—We learn that the
San Juan Fress willsoon cease publication.
Bausman is going over the mountains.
QUICKSILVER.—A company under the
name of Piné Hill Mining Company has loca~
ted aclaim of 2,500 feet at Pine Hill below
Grass Valley for the purpose of mining for
quicksilver. Among the names of the lecators we notice Hall McAllister and Judge
Heyden felt of San Francisco.
Cabin Roppepd.—The cabin of Butler, of
the firm of Kelsey & Butler, tanners, ashurt
distance above town,on Deer Creek, was
entered on Saturday night. last and robbed of
everything it contained.

land in 1861 was 7, thére being a total of
390 in the United Kingdom. The quantity of
ore raised in Scotland in 19861 was °1,760
tons.
Rtcw Strven Discovery.—We saw yesterday aletter written the day before at Red
Biuff, to Mr. James Haworth of this city,
which gave an aecount of almost pure silver
having been found about 25 miles from Red
Bluff, by some parties who were digging a
well. Some had been assayed, which piv . ed 95 per cent. of pure silver. The Red
Blufférs -vere wild over the diseovery, and
