suooTtxG.—Commodore Perry has got enjemies. This is the fate of all great men—.
The Commodore, in his magnificent turn out,
‘on Inst Sunday, must have excited the jealgusy of some low-minded rival, for ‘tis said
‘fiehath a pereon, and a’smooth dispese,
To be sudpected ; fram’d to make women false.”
It must be confessed that the Commodore,
on that occasion, had gotten himeelf up in @
“ regardless of expense” sort of style, and
which must have proved perfectly irresistible
with-the-aiestvirtuous Dinah in the upper’
part of Pine and Spring streets. Indeed, we
can not account for the savage assaults of
which he has been the victim of late, in any
other way tan on account of his proclivities
to play the‘ Don Juan,” for aside from that,
the Commodore is the cleverest darkey in the
country’ On night before last, about 10 o’clk.
we were startled by the report-of fire arms
in thé direction of the Court House. The
r dropped from our devil’s hands, and we
“iahed to the spot. Arrived on the street at
Abe rear of Mr. C. W. Hill’s residence, we
‘found the Commodore, with a six shooter in
hand, his eyes rolling, his braided woo! standing staight out, his whole person, in fact,
seeming to say: a
‘Why, I will fight with him upon this theme,
Until my eyelids will no longer wag.”
On inquiring of him what the fracas was,
he replied, ‘I's bin a shootin’ at.a fella who
_was firin’ rocks at me; if lie hadn’t run, I'd
shot the top of him head off, for I wants dese
fellas to derstand dat I is from de streme
souf.* As it was, however, he only shot the
top of the smoke stack in Mr. Black’s fac,
tory. But his assailant may consider himself
tucky that the Commodore didn’t have his
gold spectacles on, for he never misses with
them on.
. If you which to,indulge in the luxury of magnum bonum peaches, go to’ No. 21,
Commercial street. Our friend, Pierpont,
Brigg’s agent, yesterday received a big consignement, fresh from the orchard, a box of
which he inflicted upon us. As the nigger
said of hominy and possum fat, ‘‘ they were
too good to talk about.”
